York is a complex with a public sports centre, shops and swimming pool and pitches outside. Lots of facilities wrapped into one giving a return outside of a match day. Add to that it's shared with the rugby club.

 

The latest figures show the cost of York's new community stadium project has risen to more than £47 million – and the council is seeking financial damages from the builders for delays to the scheme. The community stadium opened in December 2020, but was originally due to be finished in 2012.

My take on it is he seems a okay guy. What as let him down is the numpty he surrounds himself with. Sparks is a Dunning–Kruger effect guy with a limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities. Same with is mate who came with him... He needs to be more hands on

 

Thanks for that, as @Inspector says though, the 40-odd million quid includes other things like swimming baths, shops etc and I suppose York is one of those places where land & planning etc comes at a premium? Plus if a council is involved my guess is they have mismanaged the budget somewhere down the line...

I have just had a quick look at Scunthorpe's plans. They are hoping to build a complete stadium plus parking sites for a very modest and probably somewhat hopeful budget of £18m. It will be a 12000 seater, but can expand easily and cheaply to 18000 should the demand be there. So perhaps my original estimate was overinflated after all? I know they have had this planned for years, so these costs may be based on pre-pandemic quotes?

 

Not inflated at all Steve . The Scunthorpe plan is a tin box with office facilities whereas York is state of the art sports complex . Different beast altogether . The council at York didn’t mismanage , the builders did, hence the compensation battle .

 

And some call Ryan out for making some bad calls, both Julian and Ryan were not great decisions although there were reasons behind both appointments, his business partner was a massive mistake and although its been covered many times what was he thinking of having no previous knowledge of the guy apart from the recommendation from his bank manager, unbelievable Jeff.

 

For perspective Belle Vue at Wakefield is having £12 million spent. Gets them a new 2,600 stand, a refurb of the terracing, new floodlights and 4g pitch for community use. And some corporate facility on the back of the stand. £12 million don't get you a lot these days.
