The starting midfield and front 3 have decent quality. Less convinced by the back 5.

 

Today was an example of how you play against a limited footballing side. Helps when you play the most mobile front four we've played all season. Not seen anything like that amount of passing and movement for a long time. Having Angol fit is huge to how we play.

 

BTW, disaster averted.

We cannot now set a modern club record by finishing below 18th.

 

My newborn out of hospital today, just in time for the match. Seems we’ve found a lucky mascot! (Even though he doesn’t look too impressed!)

 

Limited ? Why are they suddenly limited today. It’s a cracking result. Let’s finish with a win next week to make it three in a row well done city

Completely agree. I hope he stays, on a suitable contract given his fitness issues. Cook as backup and a young striker on loan and we're sorted. Id like to see Perreira back here too. He's got bags of ability. Honestly that front 3 is as good as anything else I've seen in this league this season.

 

Cook as back up, BUT, he's going to be the player of choice against some teams.

When we need physicality rather than movement, for example if a team comes to VP and parks the bus, I'd much rather have Cook up there.

We haven't had any options all season... let's make sure we can pick and choose next year.

Sorry but one good game for the whole team isn't enough to have Cook as a starter, I hope if he is here next year then it's in the last 10 minutes of games where we're 2 or 3 up. He's been naff and we need better in

 

If you don't understand what I mean then I can't help you. Of course you immediately thought I was knocking our team. Wrong. We played football today that was the perfect antidote to a longball hoof side. Unfortunately most of the those who orchestrated this fine win won't be here next season, players like Watt, Vernam, Walker will be in demand at a higher level than league 2. But what it does show is that if you give Hughes the calibre of player then his football will pay dividends. Let's see how far next season's 'competitve budget' stretches.....

 

If only our 'proud custodian' would provide a strong budget rather than a 'competitive' one.

It's a long way from Jockland

 

This for me was the day when the Mark Hughes project really kicked off. He's worked hard over the last few weeks trying to work out the best he has and tactically how far he can take them forward. This was a great performance with a team full of players desperate to do well with tactics they enjoy, driven by a manager who's given them a game plan that really motivates them. Great big win against a team who are desperate for a play off place. MH keeps talking about the importance of momentum - after the slightly underwhelming Scunthorpe win he certainly got it here. Need Vernam to stay - new deal for Angol.
