Was never overly impressed with Charman, he seemed to be a product of the system at Darlington as they created a lot of chances for him

 

What do you estimate cost of Chatman in fee and wages is against the costs of Delfounso or Elliot or both? I’d prefer the Chatman route to the final pay day/big wages from other teams on loan route.
£70k+ Each if we’re picking up a reasonable proportion of their wages

 

Oh I would've absolutely had Charman over the crap we recruited in. I just didn't expect him to light up League 2, but getting him would've been much better than Delfounso and Elliot

 

Hughes talking about exploiting the loan market and using his contacts at PL clubs. He’s making the point I’ve made for a few years with regard to the unique environment we can provide at L2 level, to test how players play under pressure.

It’d be nice to think he can use his contacts at Man City to take a couple of their younger players. James McAtee - top scored in PL2, had a couple of sub appearances for the first team, only 19. That’s maybe overly ambitious, but you never know - and Hughes is very well thought of by the City hierarchy, so you never know. At any rates, we should have access to the better end of U23 talent that’s available for loan outside of the championship.

 

Interesting that Hughes has said that he will be looking to bring in loan players that have already had experience out on loan, rather than raw youngsters.

One of the first on my list would be Man Utd keeper Nathan Bishop who has had a very good season at Mansfield by all accounts, and was very good on the day at Valley Parade in Hughes'first match here. He also played a season for first club Southend before Man Utd snapped him up

 

Great shout. A lot of the Wales U21 side are in a similar bracket. I.e. prem and championship clubs, a bit of lower league experience on loan or look set for a loan. Given club and national connections, it wouldn’t surprise me if we ended up tapping into that sort of pool. Any senior pro’s with a Welsh background who’ve played at high levels and who could come in for a year or two? A Welsh Gary Jones type….? Not that it has to be Welsh of course, but Hughes is a Wales legend and would attract a calibre of player who otherwise might not drop to league 2.

 

All though I agree with your post overall, there are always exceptions, both Devante Cole and Jordy Hiwula played at the same level at Man City and both flattered to deceive.

 

I personally thought Hiwula did okay for us

 

We have two loans here at the moment who I hope are here again next year along with some of the talent talked about

 

Both are still better than anything we have on the books right now though. Either of them would be a decent signing as part of a striking quartet.

 

The keeper is terrible with his feet. That's the reason I think Hughes might look elsewhere.

I realise we're not getting Ederson level but with the way Hughes wants to play the lad is going to have to be able to execute a simple 10 yard pass and currently Bass struggles to pass wind.

 

Yet if we'd gone for people like Cole Stockton or the lad who Charman replaced, Jake Beezley, then we'd have been on to a winner. Beezley score twice at the weekend in the championship yet took time to adjust to league 2. Give Charman tike to get used to his surroundings and I think theres a player there

 

I'd be amazed if we don't bring in a young PL keeper on loan. They're all coached to be able to use their feet. Neil Bishop is a great shout by @Idlebantam

 

The lads been training twice a week pre January and been playing against farmers, really he shouldn’t have even played this season and probably just adjusted to full time training and reserve games if they have them. It’s a failure by them that someone not ready has had to make so many appearances, similar to when McBurnie played for us. People are quick to write players off.

 

Yes I'd take Jordy,. according to his stats he's not getting much game time a Doncaster Rovers.

 

He's handy with a vacuum cleaner though, if a certain video doing the rounds is anything to go by....

 

City hoping to be able to announce their new head of recruitment next week. Whoever it is has just some loose ends to tie up with his current club.

 

So with Oldham down sadly today is Bahamboula worth a look? Always impressed when I've seen him play.
