Its alright having the most crosses but ultimately its the quality of those crosses thats important. And i agree that we need to have an attacking threat down the middle, we became so predictable that teams were pushing our wing backs back into our own half. Then the goto default of hoofball became the only option

He could not wait to get away to Bristol in Jan.I don't see any future for him here, and I think Evans could lead Bristol to a good season,so that might tempt him.

That’s him, makes me chuckle though.

But we have just signed Beasley who loves crosses into the box - the very system that relies on us to play that way.

I dont see a return to 433 anytime soon. Be odd to change that after snagging Beasley. But I agree, a more dynamic attacking CM is a must to give us an outlet through the middle too.

I think we should have the option to play 4 or 5 regardless of the targetman. A lot of teams use a solo target man now but to be honest with our 5 at the back, the balls coming in rarely came from Sarce or Pointon. Usually was the wing back and then if not because we loaded up and they were back, it was the wide CB getting it in. The amount of times a Tilt or Pennington or Baldwin were having to put the final ball in got a bit silly at times.

I suppose if you go 4231 or 433, the aim is for the winger to have the end product, but if not the back up is the full back coming to support, who are still better options than our CBs lobbing one in. I'd like to have a bit more fluid options on the bench to either start with a 5 and move to a 4 or the other way round. Felt like that season got a bit "square peggy" at times with the options.

We have to have both formations. One of things I noticed last season was our inability to change when a team was on top of us. We didn’t have a number 9, and our midfield was stodgy and rooted in defence. We needed players who can change things around.
