I’ll just repost what I put on another forum about Power. It’s not what footballs about for me saving some travel time on your car ride home but each to their own.

‘As has been said, club captain Power is set to leave. It's very disappointing and for my biggest pet hate reason, a shorter commute. I was lucky to grow up going to VP in the mid-90s. I didn't sit and stand in the stands dreaming of a shorter commute home when I fantasised about being out on the pitch. In the Beckham documentary as well, both he and Neville talk about adrenaline being like a drug. To go from captaining a club that is averaging over 20k and was defending the last 2 games of the season, to somewhere with the atmosphere of an abandoned warehouse and ended lower down the table because you want a shorter drive home from training is prettypathetic. But I suppose fans do romanticise the game, rightly so IMO it's the best job in the world.’

    I agree with you.

If a guy signs a two year deal and can't even honour it then it reflects badly on him in my view.

We don't need folk who aren't committed in the squad. He can bugger off.

When I read the original comment which I posted, then read at mid day Beesley had signed I thought that didn't go to well.

Don’t think it’s down to a shorter commute although that might be part of it. Probably better wages a club he probably calls his own and family playing for club. However I am only concerned about it affects us because I bet G A didn’t expect it when planning next season

Wigan had a smaller wage bill than us last year. The Whelan days are firmly behind them and they had to bring a new manager in to save them from relegation. He may have history there, he should have gone there last year but they wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole after his stints abroad. It’s poor with me tbh, people can make excuses but it’s the sort of dull stupid move that has come into the modern game and taken a lot of what really matters out of the game. He was lucky to represent this club, make no mistake about it.

During my time watching Bradford City I can possibly count on two hands players who I've been disappointed the club let go, and I can assure you Power isn't anywhere near them, the lad had a good season with us I thought generally he was an upgrade on Smallwood and was a pretty constant performer so I've no axe to grind, if going to Wigan gets him a 2 year deal that's better than he's on be that traveling, salary, or being at the club he calls home good luck to the guy.

I feel similarly but before we let him leave we need to ensure we have a replacement as good or better than him and a compensation to match his value to us

It’s a little bit annoying mate, but if we get some cash and we can upgrade again’ like with Smallwood
Maybe we might get someone who can actually get a corner or free kick on the money more often than not

Well as its pretty much common knowledge Power is on his way you'd hope that situation has been sorted similar to the Smallwood situation last closed season.

I cant be arsed Andy, a player who served us pretty well for just one season is leaving to better himself and we get a fee from it and I'd think a big saving on his salary.

With regards the two I thought Smallwood deserved another contract but on reflection he had 3 seasons with us and only impressed during his last season, Smallwood leaving was Alexanders call where as this looks like Power is the one wanting out.

We will get a replacement but we aren’t playing for another 2 months so hardly need to hold onto him until we get a replacement in. Compensation will already have been agreed.

Whenever the city vent decide to come back every season they always seem to come back with this sort of claim. They may well get told things but "going for it" isn't going to be financial going for it that is going to be required. And our chubby racer overlord most certainly doesnt have the cash to put up what is required.

My guess is had Power chosen to stay, and thus “honoured” his 2 year contract, he would not of been as good next season as he was last. By which stage, we have a player who is a captain, and thus a tactical nightmare as you cant just drop your captain like any other player on the field

You’d then have a brigade out saying “I wish City were more astute in their transfer dealings and took a fee for a player nearing the end of his career as we aren't gonna get a fee from him now”

logically speaking, he was a short term fix. Someone to come in and stop us from sinking when we got promoted. He did his job, weve got a ready made replacement in Metcalfe who has a higher ceiling, and im assuming the funds from his sale go towards Beesley. Its a good business deal and feel the sour grapes from some on here is a bit harsh

Couldn’t agree more don’t know who feeds them
Info but there’s not a chance in hell we’ll be “going for it financially”. GA and the lads am sure they will but they will be limited. On Beesley good signing in my opinion so credit where it’s due.

The lad has good history with Wigan and apparently his sons are involved with their academy. Closer to his home as well, ticks a lot of boxes. Can leave with his head held high

Our chubby racer overlord as you describe him has put more money into our club than any other owner we’ve had.. Good luck in finding someone who can put up with what you regard is required.
