Exactly, why would we try to sign a 34 year old journeyman striker who only scored 3 goals last season? It’s a Bradford City thing.
We might as well have kept Cook and brought back Matt Derbyshire.
If this is the kind of shite we are looking to sign after increasing ST prices and selling a record amount then fans won’t be happy at all.

 

They will also be aware that Wigan are going to be receiving a substantial fee for their GK this summer so any attempts by them to suggest they can't afford what we are asking should be laughed off. Start high and negotiate from there and hopefully we end up with a decent amount to add to the transfer kitty.

I'm hoping we aren't as soft as we used to when it comes to negotiating exit fees for players that no longer want to be here *Vaughan * and that we will stick to our guns and demand a decent fee. We can be graceful in letting Power go if he doesn't want to be here, but that needs to be dependent on us receiving decent compensation and not just rolling over and accepting whatever Wigan say they are willing to pay.

No big deal if he goes. He was a good skipper and was part of a team that progressed further than we all thought but wants to move on if Parker is correct. Just make sure we sign a replacement that ticks the right boxes.

A few thoughts:

Callum Connolly - don’t really know much about him. He’s obviously a good replacement for Kelly, but is he an improvement on Wright, Pennington and Baldwin? Tilt hasn’t got age on his side so I guess he’s going to fight for a starting spot with Wright, Penno and Baldwin.

Michael Smith would have been a good signing 10 years ago, but now…? I’m not seeing the appeal.

Power - it’s a shame to lose our captain after we rescued him from his spell in Belgium, but I can totally see why he wants to go back to Wigan. It ticks all the boxes for him. I’m sure we’ll have a good replacement lined up.

 

We don’t have to “ agree” , it is effectively annulled/ voided as we no longer would hold the players registration . Source FA Rules . Power will not get two salaries worth for the next 12 months , players on a two year deal would want a transfer every 12 months if that was the case ?

 

That whole business still irks me. I remember Sparks saying in the online fans forum that no way would we be letting him go for peanuts, and definitely not to one of our rivals. Fast forward a few days and that's exactly what did happen, with us paying for the peanuts - bloody expensive ones too!

 

We really need to make sure we utilise the loan market to it's full potential, it pretty much got Bolton promoted. Folk can argue they don't own those players but equally if they didn't have that calibre of player available to them through those loans they wouldn't have been promoted.
