Doesn’t sound like we'll be signing any cast offs from Stockport or Bolton this summer if GA's comments in the T&A this morning are anything to go by. Says he won't be watching the final tomorrow and the only reason he would is if he was interested in watching a certain player/s.

Mate of mine from work who is a Wednesday fan has asked how Pointon did this season. Rumour on their end is they are going to try grab him this summer.

I think it was fairly well known (I think) that about 18 months ago Wednesday had scouts at City games fairly regularly and were very interested in Pointon.

Unknown rumour, but allegedly the contract extension he signed after promotion includes a 6 figure release fee. Might be bollocks, but if true that could be fairly decent or pretty naff.

Luckily we're a top end League One club, and I can't really imagine too many clubs significantly bigger and better than us sniffing round for any of our players.

The type of club that would want our players are the Huddersfield Town's of the world, and we've surpassed them.

Still, the club need to quickly come to terms with the fact that we need to pay similar wages for our best players - meaning making sure Bobby is one of the top earners in League One.

He's a home grown talent who has a 1-in-5 goal-per-game ratio which is excellent for an attacking midfielder. Even Sarcevic is slightly short of that, and he's one of the best lower league attacking midfielders there's been this past decade - his résumé proves it.

What's more, Bobby is just 22. There are parts of his game he can still improve and round out, but he's a great League One talent - and we need to treat him as one. I had doubts he'd be athletic enough, but I've long accepted his ceiling is closer to Championship level.

 

The enigma here is how to game the situation. Suppose we get an offer of 5 million for him. That would equate to 4 players worth 1.25 million in our team. Would we be better with Bobby or the other four? The numbers might be different but the enigma remains.

 

If a club came in offering that we'd be mad not to snap their hands up. Yes, we all love Bobby but we're Bradford City AFC, not Bobby Pointon FC.

As you rightly point out, that would give us cash to reinvest at a level we've not seen since the 1998/99 summer when GR brought Mills, Whalley and co in. Done right, could be transformational for us.
