Summer 26 Transfer Rumours

Yeah love this time of year, speculation galore. Was the same back in the day constantly checking the Ceefax page think it was 312 for any goss or sneaking a peek in the back pages whilst delivering newspapers.

 

From what I've found of Gillesphey
• Strong in the air
• Very Good Left Foot
• Loves a diagonal pass (I'm starting to see where the rumours came from)
• Primarily suited to the left of a back 3
• Not champ level but Strong in LG1
• Slow on the turn
• Can chip in with a few goals

does beg the question though, if we are after him and Elder, where does that leave Touray and Tilt?

 

It is nice though to see the type of players we are trying to bring in to the defence. Its been a long time since I remember us having a collective of CBs who were all crap on the ball (barring Baldwin)

If these signings do come off then I assume it would be Elder and Wright for LWB, Touray and Gillesphey for LCB and maybe Tilt will be on his way out? As good as Tilt was at times last season, he is turning 35 next month and out of contract in 2027 so wouldn’t be surprised if we looked to move him on now.

 

He is a lot younger and does have better potential. However, he has been consistently good for multiple seasons and not just over 20+ games. He outscored Jensen 7 goals to 2 last season for example. Potential doesn’t always equate to better players.

As I said, many on here think Metcalfe was “average at best” from February.

 

You’ve missed the point. Whether we agree he has gone for £2m or not and irrespective of Everton’s cut, if our fans think £2m is fair for Metcalfe, why do we think up to £1.5m is too much for a better player (albeit with less potential)?

 

Because you arnt comparing apples with apples, that’s why. Bailey doesn’t have the same potential to improve into the CC much further, whereas ……… ?

Bailey had a year left on his deal, whereas Metcalfe…….Thats why .

Millwall play off finalists in the CC think Metcalfe has huge potential, whereas they think Bailey isn’t worth looking at. That’s why?

He had an exceptional season last year, no doubt about it. He had 2 very good seasons before that in league 2. Prior to that he was playing in the National league. At no point during that time has he ever been touted as a player that could do it at a higher level. Currently all the rumours about him are that there are a number of league 1 clubs interested in him. Not one championship side has been mentioned. Out of the interested clubs, at least one has now cooled their interest, probably because they don't think he is worth what Donny are asking.

 

There was a fair few rumours over the last day or so that the Elder deal is currently off and I reckon thats why the Gilly deal is going forward.

Tilt is done as a starter here. He was rough to watch the last few weeks maybe months of last season. He also turns 35 before the season starts, he might be slotted down to the Kelly role of last season and get the odd minutes.

 

Some comments from Charlton fans in reply to a post here. Decent passer, good in the air in both boxes, slow so needs pace around him, better in a 3 than a 4

 

Metcalfe played in 2 man midfield so has to hold the midfield. Bailey played in a 3 so could break into the box.

 

On the whole Dundee fans weren't too fussed about losing McCracken. Decent shot stopper, habit of parrying shots straight back out, critical of his distribution, finds touch too regularly....sounds like a typical lower league no1

 

If the rumours are true and we are showing interest I think it will be one or the other

 

I don't know what they mean by distribution but watching the video someone posted earlier he had a longer kick off the floor than Walker and was more comfortable passing the ball to a team mate than him as well.

 

Obviously it's a highlights reel so it isn't going to show any bloomers but it was probably his distribution that impressed me most when I watched it!
