Not that I’m saying I thought we were getting Green, but my personal view is that Grimsby are putting out these clips to ramp up hype ahead of a new contract announcement. Can you imagine the fall out if they posted all these feel-good clips and posts, just to announce he was leaving? Surely a shorter, more to-the-point announcement would be the case if he were to go?

Couple of the X lot seem to think Grimsby’s posts are preparing a farewell message, but I don’t see it.

The issue is these are L2 stats . His entire career is NL or L2 .At his age he ain’t going to get better , why on earth would he become a major L1 player overnight ? I don’t get it sorry.

 

Most of our squad made the step up. It’s not as big a gap as you are making out.

 

We shall see, Pattison, Kelly, Smallwood, etc etc etc say not everyone can make the step . I wouldn’t pay money for him as the risk is too big. Honestly I wasn’t even impressed with him either in the play offs which I did watch .

 

I'd much rather go for Phillips who's also been mentioned today. Same age but proven at this level.

 

You're right, absolutely you are. However, as you point out, our strength was our defensive efforts. Having both central midfielders playing their roles, contributed to that. Take Power away and add a more offensive partner for Metcalfe and we would be less secure at the back. Now, the question is, will we create more/better chances for the front players?

 

What was his contribution in the away games? He was knocked off the ball way too easily and certainly didn’t pose as much threat as he did in the home games.

You weren't just talking about his away form though were you? You said he was a disappointment, particularly away from home, which suggests you also weren't that impressed with him at home either. I agreed with you that he was less effective away from VP, as he only managed 1 goal and one assist in his 15 games. In his 18 home games he scored 9 with 2 assists. So yes, it is nonsense.

It's a good question, if it means we score more often but then concede it defeats the object of doing it .if Alexander chooses to remain of a similar minded set up, which most managers do, then he's going to have to get more out other areas of the pitch. The wing backs are gonna have to be consistent better than what they were, Neufville was very hit and miss though Wright showed his best form for the club before he got injured. Also need centre backs who compliment those wing backs to allow them to stay in the opponents half of the field. No point just aimlessly booting the ball long.

 

There's levels to this game. Not saying you can't climb the ladder but your whole career at league 2 level or below and your now 28, theres a reason no one from above has come on for you. Andy Cook had the same problem.

 

It's really an odd one, we had . Up until about 20 games in we played fast and Neufville looks quality. Then when started hoofing it and wasnt playing with the same pressing intensity, he couldn't get to grips with the match as well.

We were top up until that point, if you start the table from December until the end when we were hoofing it every game, we were mid table. One type worked incredibly well and one did a job, maybe GA thought our lads couldn't play that pressing way for a full season?

 

I’ll never write a new player off (that’s assuming he does indeed sign) however I get your point @Kevin1954 . It’s not only one step up. If we have serious intentions of challenging as we did this season, surely a signing that costs significant money has to have the potential of been able to go beyond League one also.

I know very little of this guy, so my comments are more general than specific.

All this said, Sarce has barely played above league one and we all felt comfortable of him making the step up if we were successful this season just gone.

Why would you want a player that refuses to work hard away from home when we're more likely to have to defend and put in the hard yards?

It wouldn't make any sense to drop the hard working Bobby for him in those games.

 

Probably the daftest opinion I've heard in a while. For a young lad making the step up he was absolutely superb last year and if he reaches similar heights this year I'm not sure he'll be with us for another one.
