This must be one of the older average age released list ever with so many players 30+ and possibly a reason why they collapsed in the 2nd half of the season.

 

I was surprised at how many of their L2 squad were kept on. They had one of the oldest L2 squads, then another year on top in L1 and it's not a surprise they limped over the line. I know there's this joy promotion brings and we'd like everyone to have the chance to go again... but reality is that not everyone can.

 

How does that work if true ? Some form of retainer ?

 

Three or four years ago I’d have had Flint in a heartbeat, scored from lots of set piece in his career. Probably needs 300 sq yards to turn these days .

Kabongo Tshimanga had a decent spell at Swindon last term, that said it was L2 so that ship has sailed.

 

David Sharp said earlier this season if City get promoted then we will look at younger players compared to the current squad.

 

That might be the plan but I think GA will want him in for pre season. I presume they are going to Austria again?

 

Peterbourghs business plans are biting them in the arse a little now. They could have sold Hector Kyprianou last summer to Coventry for a seven figure fee reportedly but kept him because they were on a promotion plan. Even in Jan when they were facing relegation and knew he wasn't going to stay, they should have tried getting something for him. He's going to walk to a Champ club on a free now. Similar story with Ricky-Jade Jones and Cardiff, they were in talks to sign him and it fell flat. Poku is expected to sign for Birmingham but Posh will get a big compo fee apparently.

 

Once you are informed by your parent club that you are going to be released, you can sign for another club whenever you like, it's just the contracts don't start until July 1st. Even when you are "released" this week by the clubs when the retain lists are out, the players are still until contract and paid until June 30th. You just have free reign to find your next employer. Like Harry Lewis a few years back, he was told by Southampton with a few games to spare he could leave and signed for us pretty quickly.

Swindon have already said they wont be able to afford his weekly wages. Apparently he chose Swindon over Barnet in Jan, wouldn't be shocked to see them go back for him. Barnet have a fair few quid these days from player sales.

 

Happens at all levels, player maybe makes false promises, tries to stall it or refuses to move. Look at Pool losing Trent. Too a lesser scale, we lost Paudie, Watt and Vernam all for zip. I think we could have maybe got a few bob if they were in contract.

I often ask myself why clubs allow assets to run their contracts down but happens all too often so not as black and white as simply 'sell' I suppose.

 

Ohh 100%. I think at L2 level, nobody was really willing to bid for Watt or Paudie when their deals were coming up that season so we were always likely not to gain much. But for Peterborough this season when you have 7 figure bids on the table, that's a different story. Of the other released lads they have, there aren't many that float my boat.

Most importantly, have Middlesborough announced their released list yet?

 

A colleague is Barnsley fan and thinks that a small fee would be enough to secure Shepherd. Apparently Barnsley are skint.

 

A small fee to Barnsley and a small fee to Bradford are two different things. A small fee could be £250-£300k. Chicken feed in terms of their transfer business.

 

Let's offer them a deal just like we did for Colin Doyle then

 

He's got 1 year left on his deal (plus an option). He will have been on peanuts last year and his new one signed last summer might be a touch better but I cant imagine he's a big earner there, even a middle earner. If they are that skint, offer £50k, they save a 6 figure sum over the last year of his deal and even if they come back wanting a touch more and you barter a bit, we don't need to go mental. Barnsley make a tidy profit on a player that they haven't really developed, we bring in a player who knows the system. Wins all around.
