Summer 2025 transfer rumours

I think once the Prem gets going, there’ll be a lot of movement in the form of loans once managers get settled on their squad. We haven’t got any loans so far have we? Certainly we’ll get a couple before the window shuts. Would be great if we find a hidden gem. Been a long time - Cullen and Burke the last we’ve had who were good and have gone onto bigger things.

 

It’s clear to me that Smallwood’s departure was a last minute u-turn from Alexander. When you factor that in with how early Max Power was signed in the window, I’ve got absolutely no doubt he was originally brought in to partner Smallwood rather than replace him. Big mistake imo and it’s something a few of us brought up in pre-season. Not only have we now lost the qualities Smallwood brought to the side but we’re also stifling a player who has three promotions at this level on his record.

 

Yeah i reckon the squad gets padded out with some younger lads on loan towards the deadline. Looking at our young loans, is Cullen the last one we had who went onto better things? He was last here for the 16/17 season.

Paudie, but he came and joined again in L2, so its not like his loan then propelled him up the pyramid. Rumarn Burrell is now in the champ, but his loan spell here was literally 10 minutes of first team football. Scott Banks was probably the one who people thought would leave and go onto better things but unfortunately he's barely played since leaving us over 2 years back. Although it sounds like Banks did well in pre-season, hopefully his career kicks on again.

 

Yeah he's probably the last one. Looks like he did well back at Huddersfield then has barely had a run in a side since leaving there in summer 2022.

 

Spent a bit of time in the MLS as well didn't he?

 

It’s early days but a Smallwood / Power combo would be too slow in my opinion. I’m hoping Metcalfe has the legs I think we need to get about the midfield. I think (early days) Smallwood could have been the better option but I don’t know what Powers strongest position is.

 

He was unfortunate in that an admin c0ck up meant a planned loan from Forest in the January window to Blackburn was not ratified by the league. He was left out in the cold at forest for the rest of that season as wasn't part of their squad, that's why he ended up doing a short term MSL loan

Of our old loanees, it will be interesting to see how Tayo gets on at Orient. They play a back 4 with traditional full backs it seems, complete contrast to the job he was asked to do for us last season. Looks like he had a poor game against Huddersfield but most their squad did, and much better against Wigan.

 

Im looking forward to seeing what Metcalfe offers, surely he will get some game time tonight?

 

Nailed on for me , maybe 90 mins shared with Power or Leigh . Ditto Pattison.

 

I'm thinking Leigh might not be fit to play anyway after he went off on Saturday? I think GA will probably start Patto in his place and maybe bring Metcalfe on around the hour mark.

Good post - but over the summer GA said himself on Radio Leeds that as manager he needs to make these types of big decisions. Only time will tell if he’s right. It’s a bit early yet.

Hunt update

 

Yep, he's training with Sheff Weds, looks like there's a lot of over 30s training there in the hopes of a short term deal. Their squad is so thread bare at the minute, lads like Hunt might actually get a deal until Jan. Their backup CM went on loan to Carlisle last season and could only get limited game time in their naff L2 side..... he came on last week as he's 3rd choice CM at the minute for them in the champ.
