The point is GA likes players who can be adaptable he has mentioned it. For instance Humphrey and Swan can play all the attacking midfield roles or up front. he has brought players in obviously for their main positions but can move them about if necessary

 

On the subject of utility players I’m surprised Anthony O’Connor hasn’t been mentioned. Some on here might not rate him but I thought he did well for us at RB and DM.

 

He was the scapegoat of the moment.

 

Can’t comment on his work rate as I’ve never seen him play, but I don’t think many clubs would be turning down this scoring record!

 

He was a utility scapegoat, a position we haven't really filled properly since he went.

Someone has your “ name” but added 2025 to the end . So they are abridging it to your name . Don’t worry about it , we know it’s not you .

 

Tbh I found him frustrating when he played as a CB. He always looked composed and in control right up until that inevitable fùckup that would cost us a goal. Thought he did well as a RB and DM though, and either of those 2 positions is where he should have been playing.

All in all a decent player who was misused and was probably with us at the wrong time. If his stint here hadn’t ended on such a sour note I wouldn’t mind him back as a squad filler. Adequately covers several positions and saves you the wages of about 2-3 players. A managers dream.

 

We have seen a few players adjust. Halliday and Richards were firmly full backs when we signed them, infact Richards was a CB by trade. Both have adjusted into very solid WBs.

Kavanagh is another that seemed to cope with a loan striker role when called upon after Cooks injury.

Sarcevic has been used in 1 or 2 positions here and throughout his career. Majority spent as a number 10, has plenty of experience deeper as a CM and finished up for us as a wide forward last season.

Just offering some balance.

 

We just need to appreciate , due to multiple formations , 352, 532 , 343 or indeed 433 players need to adapt slightly . Other than the three centre backs they are all adaptations of a theme .

We've had some very mediocre players during our time in L2.

That some of them played a lot is more of a black eye for us than a merit award for them.

We had plenty of Harrogate-level players that we never should have signed.

Depends when they were last paid . The owner was selective on who he paid.

 

It doesn't feel that is balance - Richards and Halliday have switched to a position that they now play in 99% of the time. They aren't switching between right wing back and centre midfield for example. Leigh and Walker have both played in various positions and arguably didn't excel in any so far.
