Based on the above we have 21 ‘over 21’s’ which leaves 1 space in the 22 players to be registered. (Bobby scrapes the right side for being ‘under 21’ by 4 days). If we could lose Odour and bring in a solid CM/FW then I’d feel quietly confident in our squad to have a good solid year without any real flirtation with the relegation spots which I’d be more than pleased with. Our GK/defence options I’m okay with, some good, solid pros who have ‘been there done that’ in L1 and are at a good age in their 30s for the most part. Midfield could do with 1 CM in Odour’s space - a ‘proper CM’ who’s going to win your battles and boss the middle of the park. FW wise we have an abundance who can play ‘off the striker’ in a wider position however only really Cooky seems to be a 15+ goal a season so I think we could do with an out and out goalscorer. (Easier said than done I appreciate).

You're right he was born on 4th January 2004 so he will just qualify as an U21 player, for some reason I had in my head his birthday was November which would have made him just too old. He was classed as an u21 player last season so no reason why he wouldn't this season as it he is the right age.

Check back, the good run started when Alexander tweaked the midfield 5, getting Sarcevic back and using him and Pointon in front of Smallwood and Pattison but behind the front man. In November he tried Cook and Oliver with Kav in behind, next few games he tried Cook with Sanderson. Then went one up front with first Kav for a game then Cook as he tried different partners behind the lone striker. Cook then picked up his injury at Barrow and Kav took the lone striker role. We didn't change the way we played, we just changed the striker due to injury. It was that influence behind the striker that determined our success and pretty much our promotion, Sarcevic and Pointon were red hot in that two formation.

I think Will Swan is a decent singing and posted so yesterday:

    https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/will-swan-signs.9206/#post-993116

I’m merely pointing out that the majority of Crawley fans don’t seem to rate him and I can understand why someone might be sceptical about the signing as a result. The same way someone might be sceptical over Max Power due to his lack of football, Touray/Humphries about whether they fit the system and so on. I’m not saying that they are bad players as such, just that there are a lot of unknown quantities going into next season which was the whole point of my original post: “there are too many question marks and unknowns surrounding the others to be lauding our recruitment at this stage.”

We look almost there but I think that we can still expect Smith and Wilson to leave and a DM to come in as a bare minimum.

After that maybe a LWB if Richards doesn’t stay and maybe a CB if Byrne goes.

Tyreik and Oduor would also be available to leave if it was up to me.

Neither , Wright nor Odour will get game time within the league , their only hope would be in cups or a dire injury situation?

I don’t mind wright been an option higher up the pitch tbh aslong as he’s no where near left wing back, imagine his action will still be less than he’s wanting

Good spot:thumbup: If his birthday is 4th January 2004, then he should qualify as an under 21 player. That would leave a slot in the 22 outfield players if Smith and Adams are not registered and the squad remains the same.

Strange signing, seemed to be sentimental from the start.

Bringing him in to play an unfamiliar position didn't do him many favours. I also can't see him getting game time next campaign.

Like Rom, would have been a good time to move on imo.

I thought Wright did really well partnered with Tayo I think against Crewe when Pointon was injured. Best we played during our run in

The problem lies whereby there weren’t any where near enough of those performances Park. I’m sure he can get lots of game time in 2 but 1 I doubt, especially as Bobby and Humphrey is ahead of him. Even Bobby could struggle ?

I also thought Rom did okay at times, but I can see why the club moved on.

Interesting article by Jason in WOAP today, I thought.

Comparing the transfer approach this year versus the last time we were promoted. The but he doesn't say is that I doubt Parkinson had people like Sharpe and Gent around him to get him to think differently.

Richards is out of contract after today, so we should hear something either way i guess.

    Credit WAOP

“But as much as a new package of nostalgia is sitting there waiting to be tapped into at the right time, sentimentality can be a dangerous emotion in the immediate aftermath of building on the legacy of jubilant promotion celebrations. It can cloud the present and the immediate future, leaving you clinging onto things that begin to have less value and fail to keep pace with the changing times.”

In other words no room for sentimentality ie Smallwood .
