Power has barely kicked a ball in 2 years and being thrown into a very competitive league 1 could see him struggle. We need an experienced DM as a priority.

Deffo a CM you would think but as far as forwards go Id say we are done. Swan, Humprhys and Kav will start the seaaon and Big AC will be back September/October you would think.

I think Cook gets a chance at L1 and as our main striker. This is quite possibly his last season with us so thats when we need to invest heavy in a CF.

I’m fairly certain that when Power signed nobody thought he was the answer to the DM problem.

I’ve asked before if anybody knows if he’s played there before and the resounding silence suggests there are no stats to prove he has.

Most teams can get away with one square peg in a round hole but I think this position is too important to have a player there who firstly hasn’t played the position and secondly has only played 25 games in the last 2 years.

Pretty sure he's been a number 6 all his career hasn't he? If you look at all his highlight videos hes number 6

Not so sure shirt numbers are as relevant to position as in the past, not with squad sizes as they are

if we start the season with that forward options we will be in a relegation battle by the time January window opens.

I think with Kelly, Tilt and Touray, two specialist left sided centre halves and someone who can also cover there we have more than enough in that position?

I totally hear what you are saying but the conundrum is ( hypothetical)

Cook is unable to continue .( Hope not but we must look on the worst case scenario, he’s covered by club insurance etc .)

We thus need more firepower from Jan onwards
Jan firepower costs serious , serious money .

Are we not better covering that scenario now whilst players are cheaper and available, whereas they will be all contracted in Jan, necessitating silly transfer fees?

Max Power- are we getting the Sunderland or Wigan version of Max Power, what’s he like having struggled with injuries and a lack of game time over the past 2 years?

Touray- He’s a defensive LB. How does he fit into a system which requires him to be more expansive?

Neufville- Seems like a good signing on paper, unproven in league one but does seem to have all the qualities to make the step up.

Pennington- Read up on him on the Blackpool forum and it doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence. Seems to have struggled somewhat over the past couple of years. Can he rediscover his former days?

Joe Wright- Ticks all the boxes. Was good in this division for Doncaster and just coming off a successful season in the SPL. Good signing.

Tilt- A 34 year old CB from Salford, a mid table league 2 club, who wasn’t even that good for them. Bizarre signing.

Humphries- seems like a good signing but his best position is out wide and some Barnsley fans think he goes missing in games for too long. Leaning towards hit but it’s important we use him correctly.

Swan- Unproven in this division and struggled at Crawley.

Although I rate a couple of our signings (Wright and Neufville) there are too many question marks and unknowns surrounding the others to be lauding our recruitment at this stage. Maybe we do need to lower our expectations somewhat, but Sparks bigging us up on podcast after podcast and Rupp making statements about being able to fund us to the Championship doesn’t exactly help with managing expectations.

Why cant Cook continue? He is on the grass and on the road to a full recovery. GA delighted with his progress. I think he wears the shirt in September.

I disagree. We have just gotten promoted from L2 with Kavanagh and Mellon. We now have Swan, Humphrys, a returning Cook and Kavanagh to choose from.

His recovery all though going well will mean his real pre season won't be until September. Personally I think his first real bits of football will be in the in the tinpot trophy which is October isn't it? Then hopefully by the end of the month pushing for starts in the league but that will be 3 months of the season gone. And we need a long term replacement for him and ideally we need that player in sharpish.

Plus any combination of Sarce, Pointon, Pattison and Lapslie chipping in as well for goals. We've a lot of players with potentially 5-10 goals in them.

I think they're already in the building in the shape of Kavanagh and Swan.

Wouldn’t want Kelly or tilt starting for me? Not good enough expect tilt to cover middle and Byrne leaves

Their style of play is absolutely nothing like Cooks, Swan is a L1 Kavanagh.

We’ve not signed (or re-signed) two left sided centre backs without the intention of either starting

Well we managed to have a pretty good run from Jan onwards with Kav up top, ultimately ending in promotion. I thought the season was done when Cook got injured but you could argue we actually got better and more consistent, until the last 6 games where we stumbled over the line. Kav is a young lad still and could still improve a lot. We don't necessarily need a big man up top to be successful, most of the better teams manage just fine. It's all about finding ways to feed them rather than just lumping it all the time. Saying all that i'd still like another option up top because we can't rule out the possibility that Cook's injury could have killed his career
