Nobody is creaming. But he has done enough to earn a starting place.

 

His 4th club in 12 months. Hasnt completed 90 minutes in 3 years and has had one decent spell at FGR in the past decade.

Im not sure what his appeal is.

 

His appeal at the moment is that we're playing Derbyshire up front with no return in sight for any of our senior strikers. I'd have thought that was obvious.

I said at the time his signing would only ever be a short term stop gap to help nurse Cook through the season, or at least until January when we can assess it again.

 

Dominic Samuel and Isaac Vassell both still unattached so there are options out there if we did want to go down that route.

 

Has he actually signed yet? I can't see anything on the old t'internet.

You serious? Isaac Vassell hasn't kicked a ball in a match since August 2019. I don't think many EFL clubs will have him on their target list.

Dominic Samuel, just a wasted career. He was featured as a McCall target in that lovely documentary made. Was woeful for Gillingham with 3 goals in 22 league games then a solid return of 1 goal in 42 for Ross County, I reckon the meltdown at signing a striker with that goal return would be hilarious. He had a trial at Sutton this summer and they didn't fancy him.

 

Its baffling. Its almost like we didn't sign loanee Ofaka or Youmbi to a contract. Surely these are the players we turn to in our hour of need. Otherwise what is the point?!

Weve had years of signing expensive dross like this - Lavery, Robinson, Elliott and the rest.

 

I was just having a look down the list of free agents and his name popped up. I probably should have looked more into it.

That said, if he can complete 90 minutes and win the odd header he still might be an improvement on Saturdays striking options.

 

If Hughes will play them then fine but given he sees them in training every day and still opted for Derbyshire doesn't give me great hope so yes, I'd absolutely like us to bring someone else in if the right free agent is out there.

 

Signing dross to replace dross and been stuck with more dross isn't a good transfer strategy. We are short on quality - not quantity.

Ofoka and Youmbi are better short term, mid term and long term options than these players on the scrap heap.

 

To be fair it doesn't matter who we play up front to win headers when we play 5 at the back.... none of the attacking mids or wingers are ever within 20/30 yards of the striker for it to matter if we win headers or not.

There was a bloke sat behind me in the kop on saturday who was just screaming at Lewis to go long everytime even though Derbyshire wont win any headers and even if he does, Pointon and Walker were too wide and deep in the first half to get the second ball.

 

Ofoka is a recent signing, hopefully this week he is now up to speed and ready to start on Saturday.
