Spare a thought...

If we had sold Cook and not replaced him and the form completely fell away, would anyone have sympathy for us. I doubt it and we have lost our main goal threat through serious injury.

 

TBF they didn’t sell Lowe - he was recalled from loan by his parent club. And they will have faced the same difficulty as us, and the rest of L2, in securing a proven consistent striker in January. No one managed it.
But it does suggest that they were over- reliant on Lowe both for goals and other aspects of their attacking play. GA has assembled a gang of creative, hardworking, goalscoring midfielders to make up for the loss of Cook, and formulated a different playing style that brings the best out of them.
By contrast, the Walsall manager has failed to respond to their changed circumstances, sticking with tactics that don’t work without Lowe, playing players out of position and continually picking his out of form favourites whilst shunning others that the fans believe would do a better job. He is also not picking any of their January recruits, which contrasts sharply with the excellent recruitment we managed in January.

 

I know he was recalled, just throwing up a scenario, and basically saying all clubs will have issues to overcome throughout the season and its how they deal with them.
So far we are doing ok and if the rest struggle , even better.

Absolutely on the money…. I have been reading their forum a couple of times a week since the week before we battered them at VP.

Poor tactics
Poor Jan recruitment , (inc “ we got a goalscorer from Man U so he must be good”) and strengthening the wrong areas.
Poor team selection.
Loss of player confidence.

On the other hand …….On form , we have done the exact opposite.

Hats off to EVERYONE at BCAFC ….Its not over yet but it’s looking favourable thus far.

 

The Cook-Lowe thing is critical.

We both lost our main striker, great goal getters.

One of us adapted, the other hasn't.

That is why we deserve the title and they don't, at least to this point. Let's not forget they're ahead of us on merit right now and there's nothing we can do but hope their poor form continues.

 

Did other fans feel sorry for us when Cook got injured?

I wonder if Sadlers head was turned in Jan and he's looking for an exit plan? Walsall turned down an approach from Plymouth for him and then signed him to a new contract on more money. But they also turned down bids for Jellis from L1 and lost Lowe. Jellis has dropped off, Lowe hasn't been replaced and Sadlers tactics aren't working anymore.

Fresh rumour this week that Wigan are looking at Sadler.

 

Agreed. Some Walsall fans were very arrogant "mind the gap" springs to mind. I like to follow Alexander's philosophy of one game at a time. The time for analysis is at the end of the season when hopefully we've achieved our aim of promotion. What's gone wrong for Walsall could quite easily happen to us if Mellon gets injured.
