Thanks for those Dave. It does take me back. I had just left school in the May , had my apprenticeship lined up to start in the September. Had saved a bit of cash and was planning a summer of debauchery. Dad was having non of it , had me a temporary job lined up ,starting on the first Monday morning at the baths department, where he worked , i was working 8 am till 5 pm Monday to Fridays with the maintenance team. then 6 pm till 10pm and 8 till 4 at the weekends, poolside as a life guard, Almost 70 hours a week for £0.80p per hour. Taught me what working for a living meant.

I loved the lido, we used to go there all the time in the holidays.

I’ve mentioned this before but I had my first ever bag of Smokey bacon crisps at the Lido.

Surprised they made smokie bacon flavour in those days, we just had plain with a little blue bag of salt in.

    In those days?
It was still open until 1983.
How old do you think I am?

    I was surprised as well.

My “Smokey bacon experience” would have been mid to late 70’s.
    That’s the 1970’s not the 1870’s.
