Just like McGoldrick at Notts County. Nothing personal just business.

Not being funny, but if I'm a player doing a good job and I see City calling with their 22,000 attendances and all the upward momentum, I'm not expecting low end L1 wages.

Wrexham and Stockport will have set expectations and we need to match it after all our success.

Shouting about all your success comes with a price

    Not bad stats.
13 assists from about 2000 free kicks.

I do fear we will miss his experience going into next season with a squad that was already well under equipped for league one. Power I don’t imagine will be up to speed as he’s barely played football for 2 years so the money saved on wages needs to be reinvested in nearly like for like experience wise imo.
We have to spend some money on the team this season and ideally it would have been on 2 decent strikers and improving the defence now it’s through the whole spine. Pivotal window this summer now.

Looking at the timings of the timing of Smallwood's post, the club social media posts and the T&A article I get the feeling the club have been blindsided by Smallwood a bit and they didn't want to announce it yet, added to that there isn't an article on the website with quotes from Ryan Sparks and Alexander I find it strange as you would normally expect something from the club when the captain leaves. I suspect we were wanting to announce this then follow it soon with a new signing so this news is hidden a bit.
I could be reading too much into it but for me the comment about not being offered a contract sounds like someone who is wanting to protect himself a bit by putting the blame on the club and would suggest to me the parting of ways wasn't totally amicable which is sad if it is the case.
It will be interesting to see what the plan is for next season as we either need to replace Smallwood like for like or we will have to change how we play.

With GA total admiration for Smallwood I think it is safe to say a substantial replacement is lined up to replace him - Alexander is a very pragmatic manager and anything less just wouldn't be in keeping with his style.
Good luck to RS whatever comes next, you will always be fondly remembered for your time at our club

Power is more of an attack minded player isn't he? We need a couple of more defensive minded midfield players bringing in.

Another Cullen loan type would do nicely!

I wouldn't be against taking Khela back, raw but plenty of potential to kick on in my opinion. Hardest thing to replace with Smallwood is his consistency, any potential Captain needs to be a regular starter.

Obviously we don't know what sort of money was on offer, but IMO Smallwood could cope in League One no problem, surely having a player like Smallwood who you can rely on week in week out gives us some security going forward.
As some have said we can only assume we have something/someone lined up, I was critical with regards Smallwood's time mainly under Hughes but once we found players to enhance what he offered we looked a far different team, and nearly found out the hard way when he was missing from the team we struggled.

He could be deputy, but I don't see a sheriff there.

Decent prospect, but we need a leader.

Not sure if the club just changed their stance. He was told one year but i presume that was verbal and not formal?

Trying to think of a ready made replacement for Smallwood. Probably the hardest position to fill in a team.

I'm not disagreeing both Sharp and Alexander have been in the game long enough to realise the situation and hopefully we can fill the positions were looking at by meeting players demands. I'm not suggesting we pay their wage demanes without in depth negotiations, but unfortunately in the modern game some of the money on offer makes the eyes water, and unfortunately its one of the things that does tend to cascade down the leagues.

I agree GA will have been involved in all discussions RE contract extensions, naturally.

i just know how much GA rates him. He would not have wanted to lose his skipper this summer, but ultimately renewal decisions are not made solely by the manager.

richie’s a big boy, he’ll have no problems getting a new club, just a shame we’ve lost a leader in a team lacking leaders. I think Richie will respect the way GA handled the situation.

This is the danger now. Was very well liked by a lot of the lads. The replacement has big boots to fill……

Disappointed Smallwood has gone,he never got injured and was worth a two year deal and will be badly missed. However with him leaving alongside Oliver and Jamie Walker ,that is three big wages saved and they must fully utilise this saving into some quality signings.

I think that’s the biggest issue.
    Every footballer is replaceable.

The difficult bit is getting somebody who gives you 40 to 46 games a year.
Like others I’ve given him stick at times over his 3 years but one thing you can’t knock is his ability to play 90 minutes Saturday -Tuesday all the time he’s been here.

Have you been looking in the mirror?

I bet you have checked up on the wyke and Jones posts of mine but can't prove me wrong so are keeping quiet rather than admitting I was ahead of the game.

Like I said if you don't want to believe my posts that's fine why don't you scroll past it's not hard or do you have to respond to everybody's posts you disagree with. I bet your one of these that will never admit their wrong in any circumstance.
