That's him done and dusted then in the EFL.

A poor move for him in all honesty. I would have thought he’d get a much better move than that or at least a longer contract.
If the best he can get is a one year deal at a very poor league 2 club then that completely justifies GA not keeping him on. I can only assume from seeing him much more than we do that GA has seen him slowing down and age catching up.

Smallwood with one final drop at City before leaving. Talking up Tranmeres training complex compared to ours.

“The building is one of the better ones I’ve been in, especially in the last couple of clubs,” he said. “The facilities off the pitch have not always been great.

“It’s really impressive and got everything you need and more. Apparently, the pitches are superb for the level anyway.
“It will be a big surprise to me because the facilities at other places have not been so great after the last couple of seasons, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

It sounds like Smallwood panicked a bit and settled for the first offer that came his way. He confirms that has been quiet this summer and had to be patient.

I must admit to being surprised at this, thought a few decent clubs would have been in for him.

Maybe GA was right afterall in releasing him?

Seems excellent training facilities don’t translate to a good team on the pitch then as Tranmere have been awful for years

Maybe not, but Tranmere's so called far superior facilities not helping them on matchday is it, they were terrible last season compared to us

    Sour grapes
He has bleated like a baby since not being offered a contract
Good luck to him, but he is still playing at the same level as the past three years and probably on less money

Has to have a final parting pop at us and seems bitter - what a shocking move for him. The way it reads is this is the only offer he’s had, which appears to justify GAs decision. Looks like he’s jumped into it as it’s un-commutable, and I read, was one of the reasons he touted himself to us so he could continue to commute daily from the North East, like he did at Hull. No jolly boys car share from the North for him anymore.

Me too I thought he would have held out for a better offer
    Great signing for Tranmere though
GA decision will be proven next season hopefully he has filled the gap Smallwood has left

He’s angry…bless him…. Yet his best deal was only a year…….. You would have thought he would “get it” eventually?

He's not the first experienced player to say it and probably not the last. However, until we get a rich sugar daddy or are promoted to the promised land then they are adequate. You'd be the first to complain if we poured all available funds into a training ground and had a terrible squad.

Agreed it’s been done to death this topic and quite rightly wouldn’t swap places with Tranmere. But what I do take issue is with the clubs/ Rupps answers on this topic at the forum. I was there and it was so blatantly not true or embellished as when the supporter offered to lobby the council you could literally see the panel squirm. Real journalists would have got the councils side of the story but no we just took their word for it and are expected to moved on. Council are terribly but convenient fall guys, funny when large sums need to be paid. Ground, training ground pre talk is very brash and post talk not so much.

Its not ideal but isn't a hindrance. Tranmeres world class facilities vs our school canteen didn't look like too much of a mismatch last season.

Smallwood having a little dig which comes across as bitterness to me. We have moved on and so should he.
