Parky had a core group of players for about 4/5 seasons (Wells, Jim, Rory, Darby, Mezza, Reidy etc), Dont really see that anymore. Hopefully the current crop remain as a unit with quality editions each summer.

I never really rated him at the time, but in retrospect admit I was wrong and he was a decent manager - struggling to stop a runaway juggernaut.

I'm not sure he did when you look back.

I accept we'd sold players from under him but I don't accept this "we wouldn't have been relegated with him in charge".

We'd won just once in 10 before he was sacked, had 16 points out of the last 20 games, were just 3 points off the relegation zone and we'd been dropping like a stone since the end of September.

Add to that, the fans were incredibly negative about his 'beige' tactics and it liked like he'd completely lost the remaining players. I'm absolutely certain that our season was ending in relegation under him.

The mistake the club made was not replacing him correctly as a new manager bounce was literally the only thing that might have saved us and Wetherall sadly wasn't the man that was ever going to give us that.

Julian was very complacent wasn’t he. Windass carried that team and bagging 28 or whatever it was, was remarkable at his age. We just couldn’t live without him.

We’ve had some rough years supporting this club, with many bad decisions made in the background taking us down the leagues.

makes the current period even more enjoyable!

You wouldnt mind if it was down to footballing issues why we went down but the majority oftimes over the last few decades was down to owners making a fooking mess of it :(

We have been relegated twice in my lifetime from the third tier, both were down to off-field issues, sadly, rather than footballing issues, although some on here don't believe the off-field matters can affect a club, etc.

    Seen us drop 5 times
    1990
    2001
    2004
    2007
    2019

The last four being down to fook ups at boardroom level :( thats what does your head in sometimes .........what happened over them four relegations was deffo down to errors at boardroom level.
Richmond and his ego in 2001
Rhodes and Gibbs fallout in 2004 and having to dealwith the aftermath of Richmond
Rhodes selling off our only chance of staying up and putting a rookie at the helm
Rahic and his bullshit knowledge of football in 2019 :(

The thing is it really has come out of knowhere :) no real build up to it at all had anyone said we would be sitting 2nd in league 1 at the start of this year you would have thought they where barmy .............the club for the first time in years has all the right pieces to go on and do something or the very least be a stable league one side which considering where we have come from will do me.
Saturday another plus 22k gate with a decent away following just bliss at the moment

I was there for 2001 and 2004. I was specifically referring to the drop from league 1 to 2. A club that is our size in the modern day can easily avoid it without the mess up at the top. I acknowledge it was different years ago when we were getting crowds of a few thousand. For some reason we seem to do better at league 1 level than 2, until it goes wrong at the top.

I enjoyed most of the Colin Todd era too. Beating town twice and Wednesday twice in the same season.

Lee Crooks, Steven Schumacher. Nicky Summerbee.

Around about the time the Shipley Bantams started.

I’m sure those upstairs will like the financial rewards of the high gates and very decent away followings, but as you allude to, it’s great to see visiting fans turning up in really good numbers. It all adds to the occasion. Long may it continue.
