    Exactly.
Their number 8 put in a proper shift in midfield but he was basically all by himself as the rest of their midfield just looked lost and spent most of the time helping out their awful and very young looking back 4.

If that rumour is true then well done Vernam for not letting it affect his game, unlike the other wasters who downed tools last week. I’d love to see him stay but as Morais said yesterday, Eisa plays on the left and scores more than him so we might not be too inconvenienced.

As for recruitment, I hope they use Vernam, Walker and Pereira as the minimum standard we need across the board.

I often wonder why players can not lift themselves to perform in certain games. The second half yesterday was dreadful.
An eyeopener was Scunthorpe manager Keith Hill , saying players did not want to make tackles for fear of injury, knowing they are probably not going to be offered a new contract. You can understand that, who would want a long injury during the close season when trying to gain a contract . It's just annoying when you have paid to be entertained
Imagine going to watch a play and the actors not speaking there part , for fear of loosing their voices.
You would demand your money back.

I thought it was like a breath of fresh air not having lumbersome Cook up front. A lot more mobility and movement from the likes of Angol etc. Great to watch.

They’ll structure a deal for Angol, a hybrid low base salary plus appearances (or availability).

Hope you are correct. He is a very mobile and intelligent player, who uses the ball well. Without those glass hamstrings, he would definately playing a league higher.

Pereira's flaw is clearly end product - either goals or assists. That can be the only reason why he didn't make it at Watford or in MLS. Luton have taken a punt in the hope that he can come good and start scoring or assisiting.

The big advantage we have over other teams is clearly our manager. If Hughes is telling him that he'll help him get an end product and he could be playing top end championship the season after then he is possibly going to listen.

I don't think it's as far fetched as it might be thinking that he could be back with us next season. That said, we also don't want another non-scoring, non-assisting forward player!! We've had enough of those this season!

As much as I like Pereira I can’t helping thinking that he’s a luxury who probably won’t complete 90 minutes very often. I think his tricks are good but he needs to know when and where they should be done.

I agree. He looked like given a better team around him he might be worth a second look by MH. His passing was good in the main. Number 20 looked ok as well. All very young lads, not sure what Keith Hill was doing putting that many young ones out. It was literally men v boys especially 1st half.

I would hazard a guess that Keith Hill was assessing if any of their youngsters are good enough to make the step up to the first team squad. Bearing in mind they will be playing in the National league next year, and unlikely to have much cash for wages or signings.

I know what he was doing but it can’t have done their confidence any good which is fragile at that age. Some of them looked like they could have done with a note from their Mum.

Plus I think you can’t properly assess when 3/4 of the team are youngsters. I felt very sorry for them yesterday.

I think that was ex Donny player Alfie Beestin, a Leeds lad

They had another at 35 years old…forget his name. No better than the kids half his age though?

Because there was nothing to play for. The human mind is complex and needs stimulation to work at its peak output, there were various reasons on Saturday as to why that was not the case. Players coming to the end of contracts, one team already relegated, a completely lethargic crowd, others players already subconsciously on the beach etc. If the motivation isn't there don't expect to see players playing with motivation.

Yes as I posted after Saturdays game oh for a Gary Jones in midfield to gee his team mates up so we didn't get a second half like we witnessed.

    Exactly.

I find it weird to be honest. How many times do folk wake up in the morning and think "I can't be arsed to go to work today". Do those same people think footballers never think like that just because they're playing football?? Bonkers.

Football is as much a mental sport as a physical one.

I've worked at places before where I've had to work my notice and with it not being my choice to leave. I can confirm I did next to bugger all in those weeks.

Agree Park. There were times during the second half when it looked like a friendly.

Yes, but there were so many players out there either proving they're worthy of a new contract at VP or capable of earning one elsewhere. I think I'd be putting a massive shift in if I thought that in the summer I'd be out of work.
