Scotland and Ireland Having Teams In County Championship

    I can't understand why the Scottish are not allowed a team in the cricket County Championship.
    I think Scotland, the Welsh, and Irish should all have international cricket sides, but also teams playing in the County Championship.
    Wales via Glamorgan obviously.
    But I don't get why cricket has not got a County Championship side in Scotland.
    Scotland is on the same island and is a massive massive market in places like Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Glasgow.
    Durham, Lancashire and Yorkshire have sides. So it is not to do with the weather.
    Plus it would expand cricket in another market.
    Ireland, and the Netherlands could do well also.
    But especially Scotland which is on the same island and has lots of cricket fans. I assure you Scotland has big fans of cricket so would be a good market.
    What do you guys think?

    I'd guess it's because Scotland, Ireland and Wales are countries not counties.

    If either Scotland or Ireland got their finger out and produced a league of sufficient quality then perhaps in a few years they could be represented like Glamorgan do for Wales.

    There are only 18 counties currently operating, despite many more being registered in the UK. The minor countries like Northumberland, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire places like that were all previously entered in the one day cup and paired against the county teams but this was stopped a few years back as they barely won a game over a number of years
