Now they were proper boots,with leather studs that you had to hammer in,and hope the nails did not come up though the sole.You had to smother them in dubbing,to try and make them water resistant.Mind you,the leather balls we used then would reduce modern boots to tatters in ten minutes

 

Dubbin to make em pliable too!

Odour of Dubbin and Wintergreen in the changing room before a game was a heady mixture

Do you remember those glucose tablets they gave us at half time with the half orange? “Dex………”?

They weren’t very hard Polo? They sort of slowly disintegrated…Crikey going back nearly 60 years !

 

No problem mate hard to believe my first pair of football boots were very similar to these in this picture, you always carried a hammer and spare studs in your bag, after hammering them in the same 3 holes after a while they would not hold in they has to be rotated slightly so the new studs would stay in your boots, always cleaned them after a game and gave them a good "dubbing".

 

Drop one in a glass of Cream Soda and watch them fizz

Watching games and the "boots" modern day players are wearing they have little or no protection around the heal, on watching a slow motion replay is there any wonder players get foot related injuries.
