Sam Walker

The perfect article, covers Walker's journey from start to finish perfect. For any team to be successful you need a good goalkeeper to give stability to the rest of the team and he came in at a time when we needed that due to the drop off in form from Lewis. He provided plenty of vital saves that will get forgotten as saves don't appear in highlights packages at the end of a season like a goal does.
I agree as well that he joined at the right time for the club and him and this probably feels like the right time for him to leave with McCracken joining.
It's a great move for him and perfect for his family and he has every right to take the opportunity.

 

Im surprised he only got a one year contract

 

Very classy individual, as much an influence off the pitch as on it.

 

You can't make the journey City have been on with a poor goalkeeper. Sam Walker has been a big part of our progress and good luck to him for the next part of his career.

 

Met him at the POY bash two seasons ago. He’s a giant of a man! Really nice bloke and you could tell he was a big presence in the dressing room. Been a very good signing for us and I wish him well at Watford.

 

Just read both club statements and neither mentions that it is a transfer. We say that he has left Bradford to join Watford and in Watford statement it says they signed him after his departure from Bradford.

Therefore I would suggest we have come to some agreement with Sam to terminate his contract and then he has signed as a free agent for Watford.

 

The club have posted an excellent tribute on You Tube.

 

I got slated on here for suggesting there might not be a transfer fee inolved.Maybe I was right(for once).

 

Big Sam is another big character to leave the club I think he will be missed on and off the pitch

I have to disagree slightly on the nice comments about Width of the Post article. Spot on in terms of summarising the contribution of Walker.
I think it let's itself down with criticism of Harry Lewis that feels slightly personal:

• Whilst Lewis’ main character energy was a major asset on his day, the reliability had gone towards the end. And so Walker’s more humble nature was quickly appreciated by City supporters.
• He was unassuming compared to Lewis’ loudness

On Walker I am very grateful for his contribution during his time, he seems like a top bloke and this move was a total no brainer on all sides. We can reflect on that with respect without resorting to chucking shade on his predecessor, this lacks class in my opinion from a publication I've always rated highly.

 

I mean, it is unnecessary to add it to the article, but I get what the writer is trying to say. I similarly thought Lewis came across as someone who thought he was God's gift at times

 

yeah to be honest I got the same vibe but it was only a vibe and i just didn't really think it belonged in that piece, just give Walker the praise he was due. Makes them look a bit petty

 

It might not be a direct payment to the club but if he wanted to go to Watford for whatever reason then he was walking away from a contract, I'm with you saving on his wages to be used on another player is as good as a fee.

 

I think the club will have cancelled his contract by mutual consent,after coming to an arrangement with Watford regarding any monies he was legally due.So there will have been a saving for the club,which they can use to pay the new goalie,no doubt less than Sam was on,and hopefully put the rest towards the new midfielder we are looking for.

 

I find the Walker love in tedious and hypocritical. The majority of the fans wanted him gone at the back end of last season and even during pre season his performances were being heavily scrutinised. His constant time wasting and going down so the team could go over to the touchline drove me up the wall.
A decent unassuming bloke but I’ve seen comments like legend, and one of our best ever goalkeepers on social media. He doesn’t come close to justifying comments like that.

 

He was poor over the last 6 months, I don't think anyone is denying that, and given what we know now, it was possibly because the strain of constantly being away from his family was starting to take it's toll. The 2 and a half years before that though he was fantastic for us. Both of these things are true. It was definitely time for him to move on but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate his time with us because for the majority of it, he was super Sam Walker in goal.

 

Out of interest, which City keepers are you preferring? Gary Walsh who did his fair share of fresh air kicks? Mark Schwarzer who played 15 times for us? Alan Combe? Scott Loach? Donovan Ricketts? Peter Lichfield? Fatty Foulkes?
