Cup games become pointless for the likes of us, Bolton, :Sunderland etc. Who’s income far exceeds the cap, get to round 5 play Man Utd and it will more than likely end up in the owners pocket. May as well as play the kids, only 46 games matter now.

Have the EFL said how there going to enforce this on relegated Champ sides? That'll be interesting...

"And what about clubs moving between divisions?
The EFL says "transition agreements" have been incorporated for relegated clubs and players on longer-term contracts.

Their statement added: "Any contract entered into on or prior to the vote will be capped at an agreed divisional average until that contract expires.

"Moving forwards, clubs that are relegated will be permitted to cap all contracts at the divisional average prior to the club's relegation until those contracts expire."

This just widens the gap between Championship and League One more than it has ever been before.

The plan is to treat those clubs as is happening for players who were recruited prior to the salary cap being introduced. That is, for the duration of the playing contract, it will be assumed for salary cap calculations that those relegated players will be on the division's average salary and not their actual salary. As an example, there are some players on serious dosh at Hull, in excess of £20k a week! For the salary cap, it will be assumed they are on a little under £100k a year. Although Hull's salary cap will be £2.5mill like every over Div 2 club, their actual salary bill will be many times that, approaching £20mill!

It makes a mockery of the principles of a salary cap. So much for the salary cap being concerned with bringing sustainability concepts into the lower leagues!

This is going to seriously put more fans off going from bigger L2 clubs without doubt, gate money doesn't matter any more as budget won't go up so why bother going for an awful product.

They have said as much thats true, but the capacity to spend and speculate on players has now been capped and the decision taken out of our 'boards' hands - the cynical amongst us may well suggest this doesn't go against the owners probable inner wishes and desire to commit to more investment

And you believe everything you're being told by the club. I don't.
It was clear that club could signed players before this vote. They chose not to, and follow a new rule that wasn't a rule.

League 2 is crap and this rule is going to hinder Bradford City.

Maybe it will mean we will recruit properly and be successful like much "smaller" clubs like Accrington and Wycombe.
The cap has only come into play today and we have been crap anyway. We weren't hindered last season... Or the seaon before...
Maybe all this money saved can go on developing young players for the future or even our own training facility or improving VP.
This idea you have to throw money at it is why lots of clubs have nearly gone to the wall.

If you believe that then you’re in for a shock. This club from top to bottom has proved time and time again how inept they are in pretty much every department. My bet is Rupp will take any spare money and we’ll still cry the poor tale.

    The efl have not thought this through;
When the squad is eventually brought down to 20, that will be a starting 11 plus 1 reserve goalie leaving just 8 subs/spare parts.
As you get into a season and a few injuries or suspensions then the 5 on the bench are going to have some youth players and you end up with say a donaldson or clarke or novak needing a breather and McCall sends on a youth player who is not a striker but is on the bench to make the numbers up.
    The fans are being conned.

There will still be the damn unhelpful transfer window but if you have spent the cap limit(why wouldn't you?) and the team is having a poor season how do you bring in fresh blood in Jan when the injured or donkeys are still on contract?
The fans are being conned and will leave in large numbers.

Unless of course, the lower league accountants find out how man citeh cope with financial fair play.

Forgive me if my maths is really bad but if we take the full 1.5 million and spend that on wages alone does that mean we can have a squad of 21 on about 1.3k a week?

And that’s without taking into account any image rights or Agent fees so could be lower? Pathetic

So crowds don't matter now @Bronco@Bronco.

Might as well increase the season ticket price.
