It looks like the vote on the salary cap has been put back 24hours until Friday. That gives some clubs a little more time to get their incoming transfers sorted out! But I'm not suggesting that's the reason for the delay.

Or is it because the league are struggling to get the numbers for the vote?

Think they will be waiting for the PL meeting on who to get fans back? And all the 5 or 3 sub rule etc?

If the efl , needs 60% of clubs to vote in the salary cap. 15 clubs . i was trying to work out , who might vote against it.
Bolton , Salford, Mansfield , City and possibly Tranmere , Port vale, Orient. The so called bigger clubs that can draw larger crowds and thus revenue, Wallsall also could fall into that list , it would not take many more and the cap is out of the window.

I don't actually know. But it would surprise me if the the meeting/vote needed two days to get to an outcome.

I wasn't told the reason for the delay but it could be something to do with League 1 and not League 2 issues. There is already a much wider gap in salary levels between Championship and League 1 and that would be of enormous importance to relegated teams. And all three teams relegated last season - Wigan, Charlton and Hull - are involved in the vote on the League 1 salary cap.

Add to those Sunderland Ipswich Portsmouth Plymouth Fleetwood peterborough and your 60% to pass the cap is starting to look doubtfull.

Apparently the efl want the squad size at 22 this season but next time down to 20.
Which is fine if you have a youth team but if you are City that will just make things worse as we tend to sign over age and injury prone players.
More players will be looking for work then, can see why the players union aint happy.

I dont see how they can legally enforce a maximum squad, like you say more players out of work and a restraint of trade.

If you can somehow fit 26 players into your 1.5m then why arent you allowed

Doesn't the Premier League already have a maximum squad size?

Each squad contains no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the "Home Grown Player" (HGP) criteria.

The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be "Home Grown".
You can unlimited U21s in addition

Probably because you are limiting the number of people that can be employed in a specific trade

That isn't restraint of trade though, that's market forces

Is it? Market forces would be no limit on numbers and a balance happens. A rule forcing a fixed number restrains the trade of all those outside of the number

I absolutely support a salary cap, but it has to be aimed at preventing overspend and a reliance on investor wealth.

Surely investors should be being encouraged to plough money into a league, not an individual competitor at the cost of all others.

But limited a cap to League One and League Two actually doesn't make any sense. It has to include non-league, and it has to include the top two leagues.

The main reason for clubs overspending is the Premier League, and the ludicrous distribution of wealth between the tiers.

On that basis, I don't support a cap being introduced this season, or even next, if there isn't uniform change.

No, market forces would be x number of jobs, 5x potential employees, then theoretically 4x aren't as of a high standard
