Retained List Announced

I mean this as a positive not a negative, but that’s maybe the most boring and anti climactic retain list ever? Everyone was agreed on the 3 we should keep, some even said we should consider Powell, and that’s exactly what’s happened. There isn’t even any drama on the will they won’t they resign, since all had options. I’m sure a few will leave, but having the full squad that ended 4th isn’t a bad base to start from. We probably need realistically 4/5 who improve us, maybe scout a few younger ones to increase in value and a good quality loan or two. Other than that not much to do tbh. Could be one of the more boring summers, in a good way.

 

I presume so. I would imagine some players prefer it if they are more in control. Its good to see Sir Sarce wants to stay. I'm sure the club would have triggered it anyhow if in their hands.

 

Could be wrong but I imagine sarcevic may have triggered it due to playing a requisite number of games.

IE appear in 35+ games automatically triggers a contract extension

 

Doesn't actually leave a lot of wriggle room does it if players wish to stay put.

Whilst most of those contracted players contributed to us finishing fourth probably at least half of them had some sort of debate around whether they were actually good enough or need replacing.

Not sure I'd agree with that, I don't think any of those players would be classed as 'deadwood'. Don't think we've ever been in that position before and not sure many other teams will be. Even someone like Tommy Leigh who might not play for us again will probably generate a transfer fee this summer.
Its a very good spine. We are 4/5 quality signings away from an excellent team

Oh aye think thats right, we offered him less, he seemed to try to orchestrate a move, so we triggered an extension based on his previous terms.

Not our finest hour but shows even with an extension theres a bit of back and forth. Perhaps Sarc cut out the negotiation period and just triggered his deal under the previous terms.

 

Not unexpected to be honest. Can see a few more going because we need more output from the middle of the park.

 

Why should they at this stage if it’s already written into his existing deal . He may only want the year and may decide to go into coaching for example?
