No surprises really. All sounds about spot on, surely we are looking at some pay as you play type deal with Powell?

 

So if I am counting right that is 3 or 4 retained who might have gone, plus 16 on contniuing contracts, including 2 "lads" yet to make full debuts. Effectively a squad17-19 so far. Much better position than we have been in for years. How many extra signings might that allow for?

 

Possibly, or basic contract with bonuses for appearances etc is probably more likely.

 

I'm sure we can offload Leigh, decent age, had a reasonable (but not good) spell at Bristol Rovers. Got subbed at half time a few times by the look of it.

Bit disappointing to know the Humphrys gamble continues unless we can offload.

The contract triggers were entirely expected.

 

It leaves us with a good foundation to build on with 19 players under contract although I would expect Leigh will go to Bristol Rovers with Ibbitson and Hadi going out on loan at least for the first half of the season.

I can understand why we are speaking to Powell, he showed he has quality so if we can manage his minutes he could be a great option off the bench, it will come down to what type of contract would he accept as we will want a very heavy appearance based contract. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring him back for pre-season to see how he gets through it.

 

Is there a difference to the club triggering the extension and the player?

 

The Sarcevic situation needs clarifying - sounds like we didn't want to offer him a new contract?

 

No shocks there. Exactly as expected.

 

The option was in his favour - if he hadn't triggered it, we would probably have offered him a new deal. The fact that he wants to stay and doesn't want to go elsewhere for a longer deal shows how much he is enjoying his time with us and that he feels he still has unfinished business here.

 

My take on it is that the club werent going to offer improved terms or try to tie him down for longer than a further year. The player triggering the option gives him another year on the same terms. Makes sense and a good deal for both parties if my understanding is correct.

 

I could see Leigh moving on and won’t Ibbotson and Hadi be the home grown youngsters you have to put in a match day squad
Hopefully we can bring in better quality to push us on, especially in the striker role

Under contract - I wouldn't miss at least 5 or 6 players.

 

The Powell one is odd
Undoubtedly a very talented player, but dogged with injuries
We did not see him after the Newcastle game until the last few weeks
If he can stay fit , a very good player to bring on in games

 

Scrap that I've seen him now.. I was panicking.
