He's only got himself to blame with so many needless yellow cards earlier in the season, if he didn't get it yesterday he was never going to survive the next 5 games without a yellow card.

I don't think we can really have any complaints about any of the yellow cards:
-Gilliead was clear dissent and he was lucky to get away with one earlier in the game.
    - McDonald was warned the foul before
    - Smallwood had no need to stop his run up
    - Tomkinson fouled their player who would've got onto the end of a 1-2 and the edge of the box

His ban is for the next 2 games. Is that the next 2 league games or Saturday and Tuesday night in the Cup?

Smallwood's booking was one of the worst I've ever seen given.

Yellow cards are competition specific like red cards so they should apply to the Sutton and Barrow games.

He had no need to stop his run up, the fact we were 4-0 up has no relevance in the laws

TBF it could have been a tactical move as all their back line dropped into the box as soon as Smallwood approached the ball leaving some space.

I agree for most of the bookings but the number of fouls given was ridiculous. We only had to go near them and they went down. Clearly thats their game plan to get fouls in and around the box to score from free kicks. Good job Payne was on them last night-woeful.

I disagree. He didn’t take an age over it. It is quite common for a free kick taker to reset when things don't feel right in the run up. It was a stupid look at me yellow card from the referee. Goodness knows what he'd do if you gave him a fistful of blue cards as well.

Happens in most games, its not a time wasting tactic, its to try and fool the defending team as to what he's going to do.
If you think that deserved a booking, you need to switch sports mate

Well ladies and gents, prepare for another poor referee on Saturday v. Sutton.
No other than Marc "look at me and my six pack" Edwards!

Yes that would be ok, but only if Mac is fit.

    Use whatever metrics you like.

What about the 5 games where Yates dished out red cards?

    Crawley Town 2Y, Wrexham 6Y 1R
    Forest Green 1Y, Colchester United 2Y 1R
    AFC Wimbledon 4Y 2R, Doncaster Rovers 2Y
    Portsmouth 5Y 1R, Blackpool 3Y
    Wrexham 4Y 1R, Colchester United 2Y

    TOTAL HOME CARDS: 16Y, 4R
    TOTAL AWAY CARDS: 15Y 2R

A bit closer, but still a decent bias against home teams with twice as many red cards and more yellow cards.

If you look at the Wrexham games, he certainly seems to have it in for them - perhaps because they're the 'bigger' team?

This looks to me like a typical poor lower league referee who has decided the home team/team with the big reputation are going to 'test' him, so rallies back before a ball has been kicked.

Of course Wrexham could have been launching two footed challenges constantly while adding in elbows and headbutts I suppose.

Think it might have to be Ridehalgh and a Gilly McDonald midfield. Is it a minimum of 2 weeks still for a concussion sub to return if cleared?

Home sides twice as likely to get red cards, and more likely to get yellow cards.

That's the purpose of the thread, Storck :)

Home sides are also more likely to concede penalties under Mr Yates (3:2 so far this season).

48 yellows for home sides, 35 away
4 reds for home sides, 2 away
3 penalties conceded by home sides, 2 away

Yates has booked more than 2 home players in 7 games this season.
Yates has booked more than 2 away players in 3 games this season.

    I think it's pretty conclusive.

I would think they would call it a concussion potential injury? Rides it is

    but is the difference significant?

the number of reds would be ignored statistically as insignificant as the sample pool is too small to make a conclusive conclusion.

so that leaves the yellows. For any conclusion to be made you would have to compare to other refs as well
