Ratings .... Ye or Nay

I've seen probably 99% of them and if photoshop didn't exist you'd be about as current as Mark Leonard.

 

Not for me. Stick with the common ones like ‘agree’, ‘disagree’, ‘like’ and ‘dislike’.

Don’t see why you need anything else to be fair

 

Always thought the 'thank you' one or 'useful' one was good.

Although can't beat a good 'indifferent' or 'meh' for all @Offside's and @Skyebantam's crap jokes.

Possible reply #3: I have to disagree with you on this. It is a useful skill to be able to disagree with people without becoming disagreeable yourself. Both of my first two possible responses could certainly be seen as me making myself disagreeable, especially as we're dealing with the written word here and can't tell by expressions or gestures just how serious the responses are. Even with smilies etc., people get the wrong impressions from some posts. So anything that makes posters think a bit is good by me. I'd also suggest that it is common courtesy to give some sort of explanation if one dislikes/disagrees with a post, and lay out one's own position in return.

(That starts sounding rather pompous, doesn't it; certainly professorial. Humour me; the professorial manner sticks with one, even in retirement.)

So I like it as it is; a few more of the positive ratings wouldn't hurt, though one can use the 'like' to stand in for funny/thank you/useful/agree. If negative ratings are to come in, I'd suggest a 'disagree' only.

Having being a Mod on here and on the C&B, you’ve seen some of the petty squabbles and the need by some to deliberately wind up others with an ill-advised emoji. If you and your cronies want to pick up where you left off on C&B, go ahead, but we shouldn’t need to see your child-like behaviour.

Feel free to create a thread in the non-football section for ‘Hats off’ if it bothers you so much..!

Don’t get into it Dave. He’s asking for the emoji because he used to find it funny that grown men would use it to tease/taunt other grown men.

He needs to grow up. Ironically this is a former Mod that wants something that he knows antagonised a lot of people and allowed cyber bullying. But eh ho, if you’re in his crowd, all is well, right..?!

 

It was just the "Everyone wants the Hats Off back" comment, yet a good few have expressed they don't want it back it served not purpose.

 

The only problem I see, is posters with a lack of a sense of humour.

 

The Hats Off thread was a light hearted bit of fun highlighting people who got upset about being disagreed with, meh'd, or poop'd. It wasn't exclusively for poops although that was the main culprit in upsetting delicate souls.

Most people saw the funny side, had a little giggle to themselves and agreed that they'd been over sensitive. Some people took it very personally which is silly.

The C&B forum was Claret and Banter. Banter has become a bit of a cringe word of late, a bit Partridge if you will. I take banter to mean a bit of gentle ribbing back and forth.

This forum doesn't seem to be about having a bit of fun which is a shame.

Or posters that can ‘give it’, but start getting tetchy as soon as they get some back? Or the Mods getting involved and siding with one side and criticising the other?

A thread or emoji that adds no value apart from a schoolboy smirk, is not welcome. I have no lack of humour but I don’t find it funny when a particular poster or group start throwing around childish emojis ‘for a laugh’ instead of getting involved in the actual debate.

 

Plenty of debate took place on C & B with the ratings. You do have to wonder how and why so much discussion occured on that forum given how the ratings are supposed to prevent them from taking place. If you don't want to give and receive ratings, turn them off and continue as you were.
