There are some things that can’t be done until you have ownership. A bit like buying a house really, in that you can’t start ripping things out until you own it. They probably thought they could get away with it last year, but with all the rain they had no chance. They could have done what previous owners have done and gone for the cheap option, but they haven’t so credit them for that at least.

I agree that the work should have been done previously. The previous owners renewed the whole of the pitch on at least one occasion in the recent past and also remediated parts of the pitch on others. They usually used the St Ives Turf Research Institute and the current 'Fibrasand' surface is one of theirs which they've installed at other grounds around the world with some success. STRI also reported that the remediation work would not resolve the fundamental drainage issue. They recommended a major survey to be undertaken to at least to understand the cause of the problem. I don't believe that was ever done at the time.

That was the call of the previous owners (a wrong one as it's turned out) but the new owners should have spotted that through their due diligence process before they bought the club. And now it's them who have to pick up the tab for many years of negligence on maintaining the club's assets. And credit to them for now trying to resolve the real problem with the pitch.

Even if it's one year, they had an opportunity the fix it last year and didn't. I think the club have been deliberately misleading and have tried to portray ambition which isn't there. "Previously we've masked it but now we're fixing it properly" is the message they are giving. We got the drainage system in 1987, they have a 30 year life span which saw us through to 2017. It's now 2018, that's the reason they are being replaced. Not only will having an asset past its lifespan do more harm than good but it's also quite dangerous given the type of asset we are dealing with. I don't agree with the notion that they are fixing it properly due to ambition and making us ready for the Championship. They are fixing it because they don't have a choice.

    Go on I'm all ears.
I could be classed in your above comment although I don't believe any fan should be classed as a negative moron,
I've renewed mine and my grandson tickets for next season as I have done for many many seasons, I went to every home game I could where I didn't have a prior engagement.
I went down to every home game when many stayed away towards the latter end of last season, I went to the likes of Rotherham, Blackpool, Rochdale, and I will drag the club down.

TBF the lifespan was between 20 to 30 years. The season of our FA cup run the pitch was a disgrace.

We have also lost a full back in the so good fight defence - who provided a number of assists in the first half of the season to help offset the silly mistakes our team made when defending and conceding goals.

The transfer fees are part of the overall playing squads budget so paying one means less wages to be spent - so I see it as a negative the way City use them at the moment. If we saw it come for the sale of a player then fine but the replacement should be as good or better. If by some miracle funds were brought from the owners pockets as an investment then I could see why individuals who support our club could be excited and see it as a positive.

If you rented a house and the drains were knackered wouldn't you expect the landlord to get them fixed.

It's a different kind of tenancy we have to do all repair within the ground, and that includes the pitch.

Over the last 6/7 years I can remember them selling a goalie, a CB and a midfielder, who else? I may be completely wrong but those fees will not outdo what we hve taken for NW and sell ons.

Think I heard correctly Broncs but was the only mistake he made, not getting everyone to pull in the same direction and allowing people with hidden agendas to be too successful? And of course Shrewsbury have reached PO final on almost half of our budget(even though they have a manager responsible for making his own signings).

I can understand the pitch but a bit unfair for the drainage

I know it sounds like a broken record but they did due diligence where things like repairs and upkeep of the stadium would have been within the terms of the lease, they should have know what they were signing or certainly got advice from a professional in that field, before purchasing the club.

Very impressive. That's how you run a football club.
