Once again I'm struggling to see where the goals will come from other than Cook. Whilst it's difficult to compare friendly results with other teams results, we haven't found the net enough times, against considerably lower ranked opposition. Reading the reports of this match it doesn't appear that we dominated the match, although it would be interesting to read the account of those who attended. It's an issue we seem to have year, after year, after year. Despite the majority of the team being here since last season, it's been a stuttering start all round, both in terms of results and recruitment. With two friendlies left I'm hoping to read that patterns of play are showing signs of being perfected, and goals from outside the main strike force are forthcoming. For interest I looked at the Carlisle and Doncaster recent friendly results and both seem ahead of where I'd hoped to be. One final point. I see Gilliead played the full game yesterday. If he doesn't have a bit part to play this season, then I know we haven't improved in the key area of pitch for the umpteenth season running.

I believe Oduor also played the majority of the game. It may well be that those 2 are the fittest of the bunch at this stage, at least that's what I'm hoping the reasoning behind it was anyway. Also when looking at the lineups in preseason so far, I don't think any of them have been anywhere near what the lineup will look like come the 10th August. Hopefully next Tuesday and Saturday we start to see that change and see the players that are going to be playing in the opening game of the season actually playing with each other at the same time.

Unfortunately Nick and Manny couldn't be there. They are both currently in North Yorkshire on the FL children's rides negotiating the deal with the pension fund. Apparently it's a better use of their time. Lenny is in Austria with his principal adviser seeking out the intelligence on what the club's plans for VP are from those in the know. That's his area of expertise. If, sorry, when the three musketeers are successful, this has all the makings of another exciting period in the history of our club which we'll all look back on with incredulity.

James Armstrong Chadwin QC, had more chance of winning when he defended Peter Sutcliffe than you have in your defence of Vadaine Oliver.

    Highlights from yesterday.
Pre season yes but Byrne doesn't fill me with confidence, Stubbs is still slow, and apart from Cook, we aren't putting away chances created.

If those were the highlights I dread to think what the rest of the game was like. Is it me or am I seeing the same frailties as last season?

Pre-season hasn't been inspiring so far has it? Nobody in the opposition team we played yesterday was over the age of 21 either. I'd say now, we're getting past the point of minutes in legs/fitness, and you need to start seeing some fluidity in play and some sharpness on the pitch and in the shape.

Great highlights those. A real feeling of being at the game. Looks like we're going to be playing a lot of diagonal balls from the back to the wing (backs). Good to see some crosses going in, although a lot looked to be ballooned over the bar. Pattison looked a good runner, and Smallwood was taking some good corners! Oliver lucky with his goal after good work form Smith, but you can only be in the right spot at the right time, and he was.

Where did you learn that? I have literally never seen Oliver sprint or break a sweat.

Of the players on show there Oduor stood out and provided a great cross for Cook
