They MAY sell him Fordy, I’m not disputing that. But, they don’t need to sell him now. His League1 stock is high at the moment, just as it was this time last year. Town recalled him to loan to Blackburn and he only started 7 times for them for the rest of the season. Both Huddersfield and Payne himself won’t want that to happen again.

Yes, he may get sold, but why would Town allow an “asset” to leave now and not last summer or even this summer? The fact is, Town have the option of activating the 12mth clause, this tying him down for 18mths. His value will increase instantly because of that.

Then if he continues to sparkle in L1, he will get better offers come the summer, including Huddersfield themselves taking a longer look at him during pre-season. If they still don’t think he will be good enough for their level, I’m sure there will be plenty of suitors wanting him come August and still prepared to spend more than they would now.

To be fair to Fordy he is correct here.. Payne was dropped to the bench for a few games. He has since come back and made a difference

He can score he just needs confidence never know he could score so much next season

 

Think this is down to the way the team is playing. Fitness and confidence rule. Our earlier style of balls over his head(cue the jokes) and long passes for him to chase were simply not for him. Now with the slick inter passing between the 4 of them, he is the catalyst for everything we do.

 

What do we think a fair price for Payne would be?

I’d imagine somewhere around the £750k - £1m mark based on the price Blackburn paid for Dack, which was an initial £750k.

 

He was severely unlucky not to score against Scunthorpe to be fair to him.

Yeah I was sat behind the goal in the kop to the right where he headered it happened too fast to notice at the time but yeah so unlucky

Not as good but a modern day Robbie Blake. Opponents were more fearful of him in their half than they were in ours.

 

I see Rotherham have recalled attacker Jerry Yates from a productive loan spell at Carlisle.

Dunno if that is good or bad in terms of our position with Ball. Hopefully they don’t need two recalled loan men in their squad.

If it happens , I’m puzzled why Huddersfield would want to move him elsewhere when he’s still local, playing every week and in front of big crowds every other week. Also in an improving team with a good manager who you’d expect will manage him well and looks like is playing a style that suits Payne.

Keeping fingers crossed he’s with us come Feb since he’s already stated he’d like to be.
