Just a bit of fun, but it’s not in the best taste to come onto a thread about Ozzy dying and then imply he wasn’t cool and Sabbath were shit

Exactly. That’s my point. I like late 60s/70s style hard rock but dislike heavy metal, doom metal, grindcore and all the other plodding detuned seven string stuff that wouldn’t have existed without Sabbath.

it’s definitely true that Sabbath are seen as cool now, amongst metal fans, of which there are now many, because they’re the originators of the genre. But that certainly wasn’t the case back in their early years. Rock papers like Sounds, Melody Maker and (the bible of hip music journalism in the 70s) NME were generally pretty dismissive of them.
Sorry if you thought I was being disrespectful to Ozzy. I didn’t mean to be. I was just pointing out that not all rock fans thought Ozzy and Sabbath were great. But, yes, probably poor timing on my part.

Just as an aside, is there anything more pretentious in this world than music journalists? Always seen it that if you like the music then sod what the journos think.

Completely agree, I hate that they write as if their such a thing as good/bad music, it doesn’t work like that!

There's some great journalistic content out there in terms of band history, following tours etc but more often than not in ends up as the journos own musical preference coming through rather than a proper review.

I was a little surprised that Free and later Bad Company were not mentioned.
Great scenes in Birmingham outside Villa Park.
    RIP Ozzy.
