Well under this ownership when it comes to recruitment, the policy has always been the less effort required the better, even checking the National League North/South top goal scorers list, then looking at their age, is too much work. Langstaff/Scott both signed for Notts County after a forming a good partnership at Gateshead. I think Stubbs, Walker, Pattison, Lewis have all been good signings but...

We will mostly only sign players that fit the R.U.P.P system:

    R - Recognize Fragility:
    • Why sign fit players when you can invest in those who spend more time with physio than on the pitch? The more time they spend in rehab, the less chance they have of making a mistake on the field.
    U - Unearth Middlesbrough/Blackburn Roots:
    • Aim to find players who have any ties to Middlesbrough or Blackburn (performance unrelated).
    P - Prior Ball Experience:
    • Has the player kicked a ball in the EFL before? Good, that means that another club has done all the scouting for us already, so surely they must be League 2 standard at minimum.
    P - Proclaimed Poor Performance:
    • Seek out the 'stars' who've been dubbed 'awful' by every fan, coach, and ball boy from their previous teams.

A couple of the signings looked promising but I don’t think we’ve massively improved the squad.
I’m confused by two things. 1. I thought the squad was going to be leaner and so far that isn’t the case. 2. Why MH thought playing a young lad who is a RWB at centre back instead of Platt was a good idea.

The thing is Ryan Sparks often compliments Gent on taking in games at all levels, in leagues you couldn't imagine.

Where is the evidence? Aside from Kelly most of the signings are from league one or two. Even the U23 players have had previous loan spells at theses levels.

Our complete lack of history with finding ans more importantly using talent from levels below is shocking.

Not even mentioning our inability to blood youth players.

You only have to look at what other fans say about a hell of a lot of our signings to judge how crap they are so why can't our recruitment team ?????? If they have done nothing of note while on loan at various clubs at this level then what makes him think that they will do anything here ...........still the recruitment is only a small part of the problem they could bring the players we actually need in and Hughes will make a mess of it

I honestly feel, regardless of my lack of professional coaching badges that last season, we were weak in midfield yet strong defensively with the 4 at the back.

Yet this year, despite not signing players to suit the system we've decimated the defence while improving the midfield which should have been good enough.

Imagine me, not having professionally managed and thinking some players are poor.

I'm even more shocked that 99% of the players that "don't get a fair chance" fail at every club after us too.

Imagine my horror when my dismay at signing Dylan Mottley Henry and he's good on to tearv up the league?

It's almost as if, as fans, we can't spot someone who absolutely won't make the grade and has been brought in just to bulk out the numbers.

Oyegoke is never a cb, once he gets squared up he's left flat footed both with the ball and without. He's an rwb and in time probably an out and out winger. Taylor hung him out to dry 3 or 4 times before he got sent off and even had the nerve to have a go at him despite constantly leaving him with 2 players to mark.

Let's be fair. Other than signing cheques, Rupp has nothing to do with recruitment. That's 100% on Hughes head.

Although the recruitment doesn't seem to have the balance that we'd like, we seem to be light in some areas and heavy in others(numbers wise), it's surely down to the manager to make the most of the ingredients he's got. If you put sugar in a recipe instead of salt it's not going to work! There was a better recipe available yesterday than the one chosen and in all honesty it knocked what (very) little enthusiasm I had for the start of the season in to touch. I'll still be there...hoping, but fck me what a mess yesterday was. Fingers crossed it's the end of a long blip

I think he only played their because he has pace and it was designed to cover the two snails alongside him. Considering Taylor, Platt, Stubbs and Kelly are all slow, Ive no idea why we are playing three at the back.

he doesnt trust Timi, so we need to revert to the Flat back four that were by no means leaky last year. Its going forward we had issues to address
