They do have a very wealthy ownership investment group, but they believe in an incentives based setup rather than big budgets. Sounds like they have a per week wage cap which is low for L1, but they have high bonuses on their deals, so play well and we pay well kinda setup. It says they have a set piece bonus on their contracts which the players really try work on.

Lincoln at the start of last season started to use an AI tool to monitor their and opponents games and see where they might get the best out of set pieces and the AI tool gives them patterns to use. Since they started using it, teams on average in L1 score from 1 in 33 corners, Lincoln are at 1 goal every 16 corners. They are massively outperforming their XG on the back of stuff like this.

Lincoln are also far more willing to spend in transfer fees than say we are.

Nothing major, but they drop £250-300k here and there every so often so while wages are controlled fairly harshly (comparatively) they do invest elsewhere playing wise.

That would surprise me. Last season they injected £3.6 mill of equity, not loans, into the club and a similar amount this season. (Interestingly that came from hundreds of 'fan' shareholders and not just the 'owner' shareholders). The fact that it's equity rather than loans is very important and suggests to me that the extra dosh is being used to supplement their playing budget above the SCMP limit as is allowed. Crucially, loans can't be used for that purpose. Is the 'wage cap' you refer to the basic wage which is being increased significantly with incentive payments?

Yes, i mentioned it on another post, but they have a set wage limit of £3,500 per week, and then the contracts have a bonus heavy scheme. Reads like the clubs mentality is you are rewarded if you perform well, if they don't perform then the basic is about what you take that week. Having massively incentive based contracts on things like set pieces has made them take things like set pieces really seriously and as i said in posts above, using AI tools have figure out ways to outscore the rest of the league pretty much at twice the pace from corners. They are way outscoring their team XG too, they are 16 goals up on expected ones.

Yes, I've just seen your other post referring to bonuses. The weekly cap of £3500 referred to is therefore on the basic wage excluding bonuses and with their much higher incentives on top.. That's a very interesting and somewhat novel approach. Their heavily incentivised approach seems to be working well for them. Well done to them. Rahic proposed something similar when he was here but never implemented it fully. Maybe he knew more than we gave him credit for!

Suppose you need to nail your recruitment if you run a setup like this in the lower leagues and Lincoln seemingly have done just that so far, whereas under Rahic, i cant really recall any/many players who have gone upward in the game.

It will be interesting to see what their weekly limit is in then championship? From a quick google, the 24/25 season average is about £10k-£14k per week, with some of the lower spenders having about the £5k/£6k per week mark. I'd imagine that might be where Lincoln set their stall out, but it will be very interesting to see who is willing to join for that level of contract who are experienced CH level pros, or do they try take the best of L1 upward?

There's a lot being made of the Lincoln Fairytale.

Pretty sure they have wealthy owners and the players won't be there for the love of it.

Extremely happy for Lincoln fans to be fair. Just not quite the fairytale it's being spouted about in papers.

There'll be some blurred budgeting lines.

I have a suspicion Humphreys might be on a goal bonus rather than an assist bonus :grinning:

It’s not attacking football , rather counter attacking? Oh and lots of set pieces inc long throws . watch their recent games on y/t . Effective for sure, but won’t really work in the CC ?

Its a very risky strategy as players hold all the power nowadays. Many will just join the next club offering a better basic salary.

they’ve done really well this year but they’ll get absolutely annihilated in the Championship like Rotherham did!

I suspect , as reported , their wage bill may have doubled making them pretty big wage spenders in the division , due to bonuses obtaining promotion. It’s got a lot going for it , as one is funded by some conglomerate who can afford it. The billionaire can !

Set pieces are the way forward in current football it seems. Currently, all 4 likely title winners in Arsenal, Coventry, Lincoln & Bromley are also the teams with the most set piece goals in all their divisions.

That’s a very good shout . My Bromley “ friend” says they use Cheek , either decoy or target . Lincoln’s throw ins through Hamer are ridiculous. Without it you could knock quite a few off their goal tally?

Set pieces have made up 35% of Lincolns goals this season, which is the 4th highest percentage in L1 with Northampton at 55% (wtf are they doing in open play?!), Stevenage 40% & Plymouth 39% just above them. Stevenage and Plymouth are also in the top 4 for shots from set pieces and set piece XG stats. Suggesting our next few home games might be a little more stop-start than usual as that's the way they like getting the ball forward.

Bromley have the highest set piece XG in L2 by some distance and its lead to 42% of their goals this season. They average just over 6 shots from set pieces per game this season. Found a strength and are making the most of it.
