Odd he said that about 10 days - 2 weeks after the links, and on the same day the final interviews and decisions were made? Probably trying to save face, but many sports media outlets were saying he and the guy who's managing in India were the 2 candidates interviews this week.

 

Yes, a lot of speculation it was him. He was 2/5 at one stage with the bookies.

 

Wonder what training is like for a team with something like that? Must need a lot of constant air-clearing when most days either odds change or stories are being published linking him.

I fear for us between now and January. The squad needs serious changes. Chapman coming back will help, as could Oliver I think - we've not seen the best of him and he'll be far more suited to Alexander's style than Hughes. Pattison too. We may be able to recall Young and East, who I think should be brought back into the fold. But we still urgently need 3 or 4 quality signings. We need at least one centre half, a midfielder, and a quality winger. Probably a full back too. And that's just for starters.

 

Would need a big clear out of players first to bring in so many. Not sure EFL regulations allow many more in our huge squad.

I like the optimism, but am not feeling it, personally.

Still, we've got to hope this is Alexander's first proper game in charge, as in, using his own tactics and selection rather than last Saturday - which was clearly just more of the same.

GA certainly wasn't brought in as a natural successor to Hughes, so he might as well just get on with it - rather than trying to emulate Hughes' tactics, which were propped up by a solid defensive record.

 

I’m not sure of the rules but I think there’s a limit to the number of players regardless of cash input.

I don't personally have an issue with it, but plenty are bound to - unless they were just finding excuses to have a dig at Hughes, of course?
