Yes I remember reading comments on C&B from Vales fans as they played us at home the first game if the season, and they said it would either work and they would get promotion, and if it didn't work they'd be relegated, unfortunatly the latter was true.

Why wouldn't you pay a fee for a player who scored 19 league goals in a struggling side especially as the fee won't be high. If the reported fee that we agreed in January was right then we won't even be looking at 175k as his value will be lower than it was then.

Who’s the last player we got from a non league club, who turned out half decent? Hanson? Nah, Meredith probably.
We’ve had some right duffers too though.

Just realised no wonder club are doing the pitch and training pitches. Must have saved a fortune from January onwards with our form

Because he's now 28 and before this season hasn't scored regular goals at league level. Therefore he could be another one season wonder like Tom Pope, who plenty tried to champion on C&B, only for them to be proven massively wrong.

If he was 4 or 5 years younger he might have been worth a punt and if he's for free he still might be but no fee for me. Save the money and stick it in the wage packet of someone with better prospects or credentials.

Non league is something we should look at - it has worked tremendously for Peterborough and Brentford in recent years.

Having said that it seems we prefer the youth option and Robinson and Gibson look like they have decent futures. Not bad for 12 months work.

21 goals for a relegated team is great stats, 21 for a promoted team is way easier when you are clearly getting way better supply......

And in the mean time we have some that think wyke is worth 2 million cos he has 10 or 12 tap ins for us... haha

Dunno actually, that's why I put it as an afterthought.
The massive one that sticks out for me is Ross Hannah. So much promise on paper, shame he had to play on grass :)

Peterborough and Brentford do well out of it because they spend relatively big fees hoovering up the best young players with the biggest potential.

We'll be hanging about trying to scrape up the left overs that will play for free board and £20 a week for the fruit machines.

Free board and getting educated at a private school as well as playing football. Not bad eh.

In two years the Germans have spent over £1m on transfer fees. Some were good decisions, some were bad decisions, some were in the middle. It is still £1m though.

How many 20 odd year olds signing for a professional football club do you know that list free board and a private education in their contact demands?

I think you're a bit confused, we're talking about signing professional football players, not 12 year old kids for a scholarship!

They've also brought in around that figure whilst slashing the wage bill by getting rid of the majority of top earners. Don't kid yourself they are actually investing like the Posh and Brentford chairman have done.

Technically they are investing because they own the club. All club revenue belongs to them. Has it hit home yet???

Wage bill was cut for good reason which has allowed the club to invest in transfer fees. Paul Anderson, James Hanson and Josh Morris were reportedly earning close to £15k a week between them.
