What’s not concise the communique set out things exactly how they are T&S are interim managers

 

For someone versed in media relations, sparks has lost the plot with this press release

 

Probably no one.
Personally I'd terminate their contracts forthwith.

What's changed ???

 

Baffling decision. There were three options for Sparks to take: appoint T&S until the end of the season, appoint them permanently or appoint someone else. Instead we give them a word change in their job title which effectively means the same thing and continues their temporary appointment.

"Until further notice" - what does that mean exactly? End of the season? Until results tail off? Its clear as mud and piss poor communication. Its like they felt they had to put out a statement for the sake of it, but managed to say absolutely nothing and leave us more confused than before.

And more mention of the new recruitment team in that statement and yet again we have no further clarity on the make up of it and how it will work. Turnbull himself has announced it on his LinkedIn page, so what exactly are we waiting for? Again, piss poor communication.

 

They've gone from being in temporary charge to being in temporary charge, what don't you get?!

 

The way I view this is that Sparks has not been impressed enough with the out of work managers he has interviewed, including Hurst, they have been thwarted for now with their approaches for managers currently employed elsewhere, obviously delighted and probably surprised at how well Trueman and Sellars have done so far, so this latest move is saying to them go and prove you are up to the job full time and the full time job is yours, if not, they will try and approach their targets again in the Spring or summer.

The situation is a bit unsettling still, however, it's probably the right thing to do for now

 

What is so hard to understand about the statement?

They are interim managers. They are doing a job while the board consider a long-term appointment.

These guys may earn the right to be that long term answer.

If Sparks had said they had the job until the end of the season/named them interim bosses or left them as caretakers, its all the same.

Just because many of us are older than Sparks doesn’t mean his statements have to be nit picked. Seems many love to stick the boot in and criticize at even the slightest thing. Absolutely nothing wrong with the statement this morning.

It would help if he now clarified the Turnbull situation, mind.

 

I don't think it's whinging, people are making perfectly valid points and not one person is being negative about Trueman and Sellars.

 

See this part I 100% agree with, safe guarding their Youth team roles makes sense (out of interest, who is covering Youth team duties in their absence?) so I understand this.

I just don’t understand why they don’t announce them as permanent till end of season. If indeed this is to protect them in the event results start to seriously dip, do we then panic appoint a new manager to replace? In that case, the obvious excuse will immediately be “these aren’t my squad” for the new guy - or perhaps are we on the search for a first team coach rather than a manager, hence Turnbulls appointment?!

For me, for one reason or another it’s clear there isn’t the candidate out there at the moment for the FT manager/coach role so I respect us not rushing in. Clearly anything other than relegation is a success this season so I’d expect transfer activity to reflect than, so won’t be expecting the overhaul window we maybe believe we were going to have when McCall was here.

Finally, on another side topic Watts comments after Tranmere were “on our day we feel we can beat anyone” love the confidence - but can someone explain why we found ourselves in the bottom two and had most of a squad who looked like they couldn’t beat my local U’16s team just a few weeks ago if we are that good? Life as a city fan is never dull.....

 

That's exactly what they were doing as caretakers too.

 

No need to mictoanalyse the statement. In essence nothing has changed and they're just managing our expectations about when the final call will be made.

The bigger communication mystery is why they haven't just come out and confirmed the recruitment team aspect. Now that is weird.

 

What is valid though? That they have named him an interim manager and not something else? Petty if you ask me. We all understand what it means but some are using it to have a pop at a 29 yo CEO to undermine him and suggest he’s unable to communicate a statement clearly.

 

And its not just whinging for the sake of whinging. The last 4 games have been much better but let's not be distracted; the manner of our actions over the next 5 weeks are instrumental in safeguarding the very existence of the club. We need clarity of action, planning, communication.

Its not about T&S being given longer - im all for that. But this is piss poor and I worry about how it reflects on what the club is doing behind the scenes at a critical point in time.

 

In the meant time the youth/ academy is likely to be negatively impacted.
Regarding recruitment hey new players come and play for our interim managers - who may not he in place for next season. This does not appear to be a club looking at a forward strategy. Yes all manager appointment are a gamble but as the clubs approach to player recruitment prior to just before the wage cap and post was about keeping us solvent and hoping we survive the season and the 3 year setback Rahic cost the club financially. The fans were sold a pup in the close season and are being mushroom managed as stakeholders - promotion not being the priority. Makes a mockery of " we need to get the bridges rebuilt " sound bites coming from the club.
I do hope the two lads do make a success of it - so the club and it supporters can start to look forward.

 

Yes. We arent steaming in and offering them three year contracts which is sensible. But they have to be the leading contenders now and earn it

 

Its a clever move if you ask me, if results carry on they will be given a longer contract yet if results change they can rivert back to the academy. Either way they are at the club for the foreseeable future and rightly so.

We all know one defeat and the bash brigade will be out in force so this resembles a win win situation for Trueman and Sellars.

 

That’s it exactly it also states they will take full part in January recruitment it gives them a massive incentive to keep up the good work they are doing without jeopardising their position in the club if it moves in another direction. I think it’s is far better than appointing somebody like Hurst if they don’t have full confidence in him. I

 

If the idea is to keep them to the summer, it makes a lot of sense. Its a much more robust audition and might give us access to a better candidate of manager.
