Sparks has a tough job now selecting a new manager who will bring us the success which his previous appointments have all failed to do. I suspect his reputation is already on the line with his own boss. I

If I were him and having already appointed Big Kev as interim manager, I'd avoid a knee jerk reaction by bringing in somebody else in a matter of a week or so. I'd take the time, and that might be a couple of months, to reassess what it is we need going forward. It's all the things which the club has failed to do for a long time now. I won't go over old ground here but ar the heart of it is what kind of club do we want to be and what kind of footie is right for us. It certainly isn't PL-lite as Hughes wanted and it isn't the turgid but admittedly successful style played by Adams.

We are in a good position as a club overall. We have a decent squad, we (currently) have good crowds and we are financially stable. We don't need to ask the owner to dig into his own pockets. In any event, there is almost another three months before the transfer window opens. We are certainly languishing at the wrong end of the table and that has to be stopped. Equally, we lack somebody in either of the two senior roles who can challenge or at least ask questions of an experienced football manager. That's not a healthy position for any club unless we are willing to once again put all our eggs into the football manager's one basket. Sparks has a great opportunity to talk to some other clubs' executives about how they've brought success to their clubs. If we simply delay the decision to appoint a new manager for a short while, he can create the time for himself to make a better appointment than he has done to date. If not, we'll make another knee jerk appointment without having spent enough time on looking at what, rather than who we need to take us forward.

Obviously not. But now is not the time to take a risk on the manager of Gateshead.

Spot on. The only thing I would add to that is to make it very clear to McDonald that if he wants the job he has to apply for it and be interviewed with other candidates rather than making the Trueman/ Sellars mistake again.

In the next appointment he has to do due diligence and a rigorous interview process, potentially using outside help, rather than jumping in feet first.

It's not only an important appointment for the club, it could define his future as CEO.

Who knows ? This is the beauty of opinions. Mine is we cant afford a risk at this point, yours is we can. Only time will tell, if we appointed him and he turned out to be in the mould of Evatt then we would all be happy.

Is Chris Wilder free? I think he could be a great shout. Managerial win rate 43.3%. It's 45.9% over 669 EFL games if you exclude non-league Halifax and the brief stand-in at Watford.

Why? It doesn’t have to be him, but why not an up and coming manager who’s having success rather than the usual out of contract merry go round appointment of out of contract managers who have failed at 80% of their roles and live off one success.

That's said about every appointment - it's a cliche. Those with proven track records (i.e. promotions on CV - Bowyer, Adams) and amazing PL managers with bags of experience (Hughes - saw it coming when we appointed him), haven't exactly done the job have they?

Perhaps we could tap Pep up seeing's we're so big a club?

I defy anyone not to have appointed Hughes when you found it he was available. How did you feel the day you found out. The atmosphere in the crowd changed. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, so I don't quite get the criticism. Everyone with hindsight is wise.

So your point is that we can have certainty in an appointment (i.e. without risk). No offence but that is simply delusional.
