Don't most footballers contracts end 30 June? So no they would not be out of contract and would not be free to go on holiday when they want until 01 July.

Ryan quoted this morning in T&
Of course they are free to go on holiday once their season is over. Are you seriously suggesting they have to report for duty every single day until the end of June, just because that's when their contract runs out?

In this case of a promotion party-no I would not suggest they are free to go on holiday. Contracts is contracts.

Yeah, players are entitled to paid leave just like all other full time employees. They don't have to wait for their contracts to end to have a holiday.

    Some will train throughout though:

You do realise the reason contracts run until the end of June is so that players get holiday pay?

    Contracts are contracts, not slavery.

I don't get where you're coming from here.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49343332

"According to a standard Premier League/English Football League contract, players are entitled to "five weeks paid holiday to be taken at a time or times determined by the club - subject to the club's first team and any international commitments"."

Why would you assume those contracts DON'T allow for holidays?

In the interests of human rights, they should be able to request a holiday during the season if they so wished. Just like the rest of us can.

Absolutely agree. Or asked to manage a 'special project' that requires secondment away from their contracted role

Players absolutely will be able to request holiday during the season.

But in their contracts it will detail that first team competition is a clear priority, and the likelihood is any player that chose to take a few weeks off mid-season would be committing career suicide.

Some folk are never happy. Just seen this in the T&A letters page. Does he not realise Morecambe only have one contracted player and the rest are coming with Adams so he should be saying "heaven knows what the Morecambe PLAYER must be thinking".

Unlikely event that he takes BCFC up ? Obviously not a City fan as we are BCAFC not Bristol City,

SIR - Has football lost all it’s integrity? Is the only possible choice for the vacant City manager’s job a manager that’s just taken his current club up into the league above?

Heaven knows what the Morecambe players must be thinking, and do City really need a man who will willingly jump ship in the unlikely event of his being able to achieve promotion with BCFC in his first season? Surely there are more suitable candidates.

If he doesn't take us up next season then jumping ship will save us paying out the rest of his contract when he's sacked

It's a funny old sport where the 'ideal' manager at any club should be willing to commit to a twenty year rebuild project (just in case he succeeds), even though the reality is the club will drop him like a bag of cold chips within a few months if it's not going well.

    ;););)

Funny you should say that, years and years ago, let’s see probably 50 at a guess, there was a chant in the Bradford end, BC, BCFC, BCFC, OK!

That was common in those days.

On a relevant note, the writer is a belle
