I'm not sure who should be more offended?
    Martin or me.

    Correct. 2002.
    Geoffrey Richmond, was behind it.
    Much gratitude to him.

After rebuild, the then owners refused to erect a memorial, as they decided on behalf of all supporters that it wasn't required.

    Unbelievable. But true.

I'd like to think any cctv images would be shared online. But I fear that for "community relations" the club won't.

    Hope they prove me wrong.

It's a bit worrying that a week later there has been no mention of cctv.
I'm starting to think that is only used for match days.

I can quite imagine if there was cctv footage it has been kept low key on police advice not to spark any problems with it being such an emotive subject

It will be demanded if no news is forth coming. If we hear there has been an arrest and then someone gets charged then it will work it's way out. If nothing is mentioned or updated then the calls for this footage will grow. So if the Police want it kept low key that will only work if arrests and charges are made.

If there's any news I imagine it'll be posted both in the thread and all over social media.

I think we won’t hear much around this until they have the culprit bang to rights and if it’s a minor they will not be named
Which is a shame in my eyes

I'm O.K with this matter being underplayed, don't think it needs to be anything of a long drawn out story, leave it be .....

An update has been given on the T&A website, my personal view is because the culprit was a youngster nothing is going to be done, a slap on the wrist and their identity protected because they are U18. The term "education authority" suggest this person is likely to be punished at a school level.

If this person is of school age, what are their parents doing whilst this is happening in the middle of the night?

Police update on Valley Parade Fire Memorial damage | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

POLICE investigating damage to the Valley Parade Fire Memorial have said "appropriate action" will be taken against a juvenile who was identified following CCTV enquiries.

Sergeant Ross Longbottom, from Bradford West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said today: "A full investigation has been carried out in relation the damage caused to the Bradford City memorial.

"It's been established that the damage was caused by a shopping trolley rolling into it, causing some minor damage which has now been repaired.

"A juvenile has been identified through CCTV enquiries.

"Bradford City AFC, West Yorkshire Police and the education authority are working closely together to take appropriate action."

A shopping trolley 'rolling into it' would have caused minor damage.
I was told that the trolley was rammed into it several times and must have been brought onto site to do the damage.
    I despair for this City.

That’s how it should be . Appropriate action will be taken by the appropriate people not a random bunch of football fans no matter how distasteful it may seem . Yes I was there on the day.

I'm guessing by protecting the identity of this person that zero lessons will be learnt, just the lesson that they can get away with it. Like someone else has said, a shopping trolley has been brought to the memorial, it wasn't just lying about next to it. The way the piece is written is as if it was an accident in a supermarket.

Depends how one’s brain works ? If it’s a child then lessons have to be learnt . We don’t live in Saudi Arabia or the Wild West . If it was your 11 year old child what would YOU want to see as the appropriate action taken.? Stripped naked, flogged , as pre match entertainment or 1-2-1 with trained educational behaviours specialist staff . ?
Adults are a different ball game but children ?

It’s the parent that needs a lesson at the end of the day .

My 11 year old isn't wondering the streets at midnight, the parents do actually have to shoulder some of the responsibility on things like this.

I don't think the old saying of 'Kids will be kids' applies in this case. Not saying someone feels that way on here, but sure someone somewhere, does. Times have changed and young people today do not care about the things they should care about. I think many reasons for that: Social media, lack of discipline at home and school, etc.

I think a boot camp type thing could help ones involved in doing stuff like this but also yes it does start at the home too. I know some parents try their best to get their unruly kids help and the kid still acts out. However, I also know that some parents simply have given up and/or do not care what their kids do. Which is sad.

The kids are our future may seem like a tired saying, but never the less true.

I shudder to contemplate that right now with today's youth in mind.
