That's my understanding too. A 2nd yellow in a game = a red and a 1 match ban, but then neither yellow gets counted in the totting up. That said, if he were to deliberately get that 2nd yellow to avoid the 3 match ban, the EFL would probably look into it and potentially take some action if it was blatantly obvious-hard to prove though!
Anyway, hopefully he will get through Saturdays game card free which resolves the problem for him and us.

Just looked it up and his first yellow card counts towards his tally, so Power certainly wouldn’t avoid a 3 match ban by deliberately getting a 2nd yellow.

that goes against what has always been said previously and has happened previously. I wonder if your Google search kicked out the actually EFL rules rather than a generic AI result which is a combination from every league and competition across the globe

I think the threat of a ban has affected his game recently

Absolutely not an AI answer it’s the actual rules. There is no way they would allow a player to escape a 3 match ban for accumulating 15 yellow cards by deliberately getting himself sent off and then only getting a one match ban.

can you direct me to where you found it then? As I said previously when people have got sent off for two yellows the first yellow hasn’t counted so just wondered if it was a new change this year. The image you shared is Google AI

Well if Power gets his 15th card at Exeter let’s see if he tries to get sent off and if he gets away with it it’s a scandal. It was from a betting site that I got it.

Fraser Horsfall at Blackpool has been booked 9 times this season, two of them in the same game against Doncaster for which he got sent off. On the EFL web page he is listed as having 7 yellow cards and 2 reds, he also got a straight red in another game.

I maybe wrong , but taking this from the FA Handbook on its website
    https://www.thefa.com/-/media/files/thefaportal/governance-docs/rules-of-the-association/2025-26/the-fa-handbook-2025-26---october-14-2025-update.ashx

“Multiple Suspensions arising from a single Match

38 Categories 1, 2 and 3: where multiple periods of suspension arise from a single Match, those periods of

suspension will be served in the following order of precedence: (a) any period of suspension arising from a

sending-off offence followed by (b) any period of suspension”

    “Multiple Automatic Suspensions

43 Subject to paragraph 38 above, a Player shall serve automatic suspensions arising from this Section One in a chronological order of precedence.

    Example:

Player A receives (a) an automatic suspension of 3 Matches for accumulating 15 cautions in Premier League Matches prior to the applicable cut-off point (which only applies to the Club's next 3 Matches in the Premier League) and arising from his Club's next FTCM (a Match in the FA Challenge Cup), Player A receives (b) an automatic suspension of 3 Matches arising from a sending-off for violent conduct (which applies to the Club's next 3 FTCM - save for any Match in the EFL Trophy). Player A's Club's next 6 FTCM are as follows: (i) Premier League, (ii) FA Challenge Cup, (iii) Premier League, (iv) FA Challenge Cup (v) EFL Cup and (vi) Premier League. Player A's automatic suspension for accumulating 15 cautions in Premier League Matches was received first and would therefore apply to the 3 Premier League Matches listed above. Player A's automatic suspension for the sending-off offence would apply to the 2 FA Challenge Cup Matches and the EFL Cup Match (as Player A is already suspended from Premier League Matches as a consequence of the first automatic suspension).”

I read it as Power would receive a three match suspension for accumulating fifteen cautions followed by one match for the two cautions ( Red Card offence).

that is if you get suspensions two different games. So yellow cards in the league and a red in the FA cup rather than getting two yellows and the red in the same game, so totally different things

I’d love Power to try this sending off tactic if he was to get to 15 yellows at Exeter. I think you’ll find he wouldn’t get away with just a 1 match ban ,if he did it actually would be an outrageous loophole.

If he was to be facing a 3 game ban then he would have nothing to lose as I'm sure it would be worth risking having an extra game added as either way he would be banned for both legs of the semi final and a potential final.

People will have got away with it as you say before as the yellow card of a two yellow sending off have never counted in the totting up. So players over the years will either have had their ban delayed or missed totally
