Match Thread Mansfield Town v Bradford City (BSMT)

Realistically whilst we are down to 2 fit CBs the only question is what version of 442 do we play as there's no other formations really available as Sanderson & Cook have to start so by default it only leaves a 4 midfield, the only decision to make is if it's a flat 4, diamond or box.

Whilst we are looking good tonight the real test will be at the weekend against a Wimbledon side who are doing well rather than an injury hit Mansfield side. With only having Pointon & Oduor in the squad as natural wingers it forces us to play at least 1 central player on one side and that probably helps defensively with a more narrow midfield then going forward they drift in off the wing that will help against teams that play 3 in the middle. Like all formations they have their strengths and weaknesses.

 

Give credit where it's due, I'd argue this is the best we've looked all season. Granted the bar isn't set high and it's not the best comp but I'll give praise when it's warranted, we've played really well tonight.

 

As long as we don't throw this away it means we will be guaranteed to have something to play for and qualification on our own hands in the last game against Rotherham whatever happens in the next 2 games in the group. Mansfield are out It makes throwing away the Newcastle game more frustrating as we would be all but through if we won that in 90.

 

Most enjoyable game I've seen in a while. It's been a good effort from the lads tonight.

 

It's certainly positive signs for sure but also at the same time I wouldn't be saying the chance of formation is our saviour and if we'd have played it all season we'd be flying at the top of the league. Some of our issues this season have been down to individual mistakes not the formation.

Surprisingly enjoyed that despite it having an air of a pre season friendly.

Diabate my man of the match, very impressed and good at organising the defence around him.

 

There’s lots of stick when we do struggle so definitely a lot of praise for tonight’s performance.
This is still a lge 1 side (admittedly with a few youngsters) but we’ve also got a few squad players and I think we’re more than worthy of the win tonight.
Can’t remember Doyle being really troubled tonight due to Diabate’s dominant performance.
Diabate just in front of Pattison for motm for me

Decent performances from everyone tonight but my MOTM goes to the ref. Best I've seen this season by far.

 

Thoroughly enjoyed that.
3 very decent goals. We looked sharp, passed and moved the ball and finished clinically.
Adapted really well to the formation and all players looked comfortable in their roles.

Pattison or Diabate pick of a good bunch for me….
