I'd say Hughes has already made up his mind Kev, I kinda know he has in some quarters. With only one game of the season left it makes no difference now to what happens next season, most guys will have already switched off regardless of where they'll be playing next season.

To be fair, none of them aside from Rowe, and I think it was Wood got much more than 10 minutes

I was quite surprised not to see FCD involved in some capacity today, given he hasn't (as far as I can remember), been part of the match day squad for any game since Hughes arrived.

I am not surprised to be honest. FCD is already contracted until 2024. He is in the youngster with good potential bracket and won't be earning much. Hughes doesn't have to decide whether to offer him a contract or not. He does need to decide with Hendrie.

I said earlier I think he's already made his decision about Hendrie, hence no need to play him today. I agree with your points about FCD and know he's still under contract for a couple of years, but just thought he might have a look at him in a match situation today. Maybe he's already sure in his mind about FCD too - if I was Hughes, I'd be wanting him going out on a season long loan to a National League side. He needs the opportunity to be playing week in week out if he is to have a chance of fulfilling that potential.

I think you are being a bit harsh on the youth players , for them this game was their third one in a week . Played Hull City under 23s last Tuesday, played a hard game at Lincoln City on Saturday, and today. The game today was 60 / 70 minutes old when they were introduced and to get the feel and pace of the game would have taken some time.
For me the youth players played well it was more the poor quality of play from the first team squad.

I think we'll just have to see what happens with the youth players, it's hard to form an opinion.

Obviously they had a fantastic season, but it's a pretty low level even by youth standards.

I think if we want young players coming through on a regular basis and actually making it into the first team, it will be important to get it upgraded ASAP. Too many non league & small League One/Two clubs who probably don't invest in their youth systems.

I'm NOT trying to take anything away from their accomplishment, seriously, I just think the gap between that level and first team, League Two football is a bit of a gulf.

I'm not expecting an influx, but who knows! Maybe they'll shut my mouth in the coming season.

It was hard to tell who was who to be honest Simon…The camera was all wrong compared to ifollow and everything seemed so “distant”. I wouldn’t “ mark” any of the young ones tbh against the oppo…because we had no idea where they were in terms of Brentford’s squad.

Hi Derrick, sorry wasn't meaning to be harsh - just reacting to a comment we were very much 2nd best. I hope, if it wasn't already determined, that our fringe first teamers will all be on their way and yes our youth players deserve time and patience (but ultimately it is very cut throat in trying to make the grade - so few actually do)

Fair comments Kevin, I know for all City fans it would be fantastic to have some of the young lads go all the way into first team contention - but in this world where hundreds of footballers are released each season they need to keep progressing and hopefully some of them will shine sufficiently to show they can reach the next level.
I really hope so and wish them all well

I really hope he's decided to upgrade on him then. In my opinion we've had that many poor right back since Darby & Tony Mac, that we've lost sight of what is needed. FCD - young CB, Foulds - young left footed, Threlkeld- midfielder poor, the list goes on. Hendrie may be best of a bad bunch but the amount of good opportunities he gets himself into, then fails to deliver a decent ball won't have gone unnoticed by Hughes. Let's hope we can make that right side of the pitch as strong as it used to be and if Hendrie is to stay, its a back up at best. Let's not forget he was released by Hartlepool. Nothing against the lad at all but it'll interesting to see who gets the 2 shirt next season.

Agree. If his surname wanst Hendrie I don't think some of our fans would have the same view of him.

Depends what you want from your full backs.Darby hardly ever crossed the half way line, and I don't remember him making any crosses that led to goals, but he usually had a winger in front of him to do that job.
