N.B. I hope this thread becomes redundant.

Given that the most likely scenario (according to the bookies) is that City will be competing in League One again next season, I thought I'd have look at how it is shaping up.

At the moment it is very likely we will lose Cardiff City and Lincoln City at the right end of the table, whilst it looks increasingly likely that we will say good bye to Port Vale and Rotherham United at the wrong end.

But what about the new teams we may be welcoming.

Well from League 2 we may well be renewing acquaintances with Bromley and their Hayes Lane satdium, which we have only ever visited on that one occasion last season.

Most of the other teams that are likely to move up from League Two are much more familiar to us and include Cambridge United, MK Dons, Notts County, Swindon Town, Crewe Alexandra and Chesterfield.

Barnet also have a chance of promotion (most likely through the play offs) and, if they do, it would offer the chance of a first visit to their Hive ground, which Barnet moved to in 2013, shortly after the last meeting between the two clubs.

And so to the teams that will/may be coming down from the Championship.

Well, firstly (or lastly in their case) Sheffield Wednesday have already had their fate sealed and, if City reamain in League One, we will be able to look forward to our first visit to Hillsborough since February 2005.

Also looking fairly likely to be coming down is Oxford United, who we last visited in 2019.

The battle to avoid relegation from the Championship is very tight but, at the moment, the most likely third team to be relegated seems to be between West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City. Either would present an opportunity for a first visit to their grounds in quite a long time, with our last visit to West Bromwich Albion's Hawthorns ground being a League Cup match in 2005. Our last visit to Leicester City's King Power stadium was our only visit and goes back to 17 September 2002.

Based purely on the latest odds, this is the make up of League One in 2026/27:

    Bradford City
    Huddersfield Town
    Barnsley
    Doncaster Rovers
    Sheffield Wednesday
    Stockport County
    Mansfield Town
    Notts County
    Wigan Athletic
    Burton Albion
    Leicester City
    Stevenage
    MK Dons
    Oxford United
    Luton Town
    Peterborough United
    Cambridge United
    Wycombe Wanderers
    Reading
    Leyton Orient
    Wimbledon
    Bromley
    Exeter City
    Plymouth Argyle

Sounds like Leicester could well face another points deduction for financial rules, but i don't know if it's late enough in the day that it would be this season or next season? Sheff Weds might well face another deduction for next season too if their sale isnt done either in time or up to a certain millions to pay the creditors off, as well as a complete rebuild.

Salford were right up there but they cant buy a win lately, might be a case that they are getting their bad form out the way now but they need a sharp turn.

Just on Look North the preferred bidders have pulled out of taking over Wednesday.

There'll always be a couple big spending/big budget (compared to us) clubs given that the championship is awash with them. I don't really see this season being any stronger or weaker that the predicted line up next season and whichever division we are in we're probably fully aware that we're going to have to improve by a decent margin again.

The preferred bidders for Sheffield Wednesday have pulled out of the takeover as they've now realised they overvalued the club with their bid. Time is getting less and less for them with them back to square 1 in terms of a new owner, they'll have to see if either of the other 2 bids are still interested and if they are they'll be starting the EFL tests over again, if this drags on into May then the independent football regulator will get involved with the new owner needing to be approved by them.

I certainly wouldn't rule out another deduction for them next season and they could easily end up in another relegation fight.

I think Mike Ashley was the 2nd highest bidder atone stage, but he bid less than £25m and i think that's the magic number they need to pay off the creditors and not face a deduction. Wont be done in time for the summer now anyways you'd have thought if they are back to square one?

Just in our office and let my Sheff weds pal know the news.... he's at least looking forward to a pint at 4! The old preferred bidder has already spent £2.5m on trying to keep the club afloat.

Long way to go in the Championship relegation battles. Rowett has gained 2 decent pts on the road and a big 6pter against inform Norwich this weekend.

I think Leicester will pull through. Blackburn are my nap to join Sheff Wed and Oxford.

If Leicester lose their appeal, they could end up with another 6 points deducted on top of the 6 they've already lost, which at the min would put them on 28 and that's a bit of a gap between 21st placed WBA on 35. WBA and Leicester are playing so badly at the minute too, it could be either of them but I'd say the points deduction might ruined the Foxes depending on the timing.
