Legend is a word bandied around too easily, but Jon is a true City legend just for that cup run and the part he played at Chelsea in what was the most perfect performance I have ever seen from a front man in any league.

To say he was unplayable and played the game of his life that day is an understatement. He was absolutely immense, and in these miserable times always cheers me up to watch it again.

Given the season we have had, he deserves a discussion in the main thread as a legend of some of the best years we've enjoyed rather than sidelining to the "where are the now" thread that has the same three visitors a day.

Pre the Morecombe game they were discussing Stead and his long career he commented that the game at Chelsea was possibly the best game he had played in, on the day Chelsea found him more than a handful.
Enjoy your retirement John although there can't be much to compair to a career in professional football.

Yes, that performance at Chelski was off the scale. His great strike near the end of the first half kept us in the game and set us up for the best 45 minutes of football I've ever watched live in my life. And the setups for the Halliday goal, and especially the Yeats goal, were superb.
It's still amazing to think that Chelski won the PL that season and were playing in the latter stages of the Champions League, but that we were the only side to beat them at Stamford Bridge all season. And every one of their players - starting and off the bench - was a full international.
