Not seen much of him excluding brief cameos for Walsall last year and his appearances against us

Been reported by supporters of Walsall and Northampton that he does better when paired up with a target man. Stats tell us he isn't prolific. We only play one up top and expect our striker to the focal point so forgive my cynicism but I don't see how he would be the answer to our problems

 

Some are but others aren't. There's a few "3 goals in 25 matches, we won't miss him".

I don't really understand it unless we're saying he's a cheap back up option because we only play one central striker and arguably Swan should have had more of an opportunity but hasn't so how will this lad play?

But why would he be sent to us to sit on the bench when he could play at Northampton? It feels weird.

Wheatley has represented England from the U17s all the way up to the U20s where he’s playing now. Must have some attributes. Made his Premier league debut for Utd in 2024. Surely a player somewhere in there GA can develop.

 

Some sausage has tried to edit Ethan Wheatley's wiki page to show him as having signed for us - but messed it up...

I would be very underwhelmed if he came here.

I would have preferred a full time signing if there is anything in it. But over the last couple of years have earned our trust do I will go with them

 

When and where is he going to play though?
Swan has hardly had much gane time and he's our player so this lad isn't going to get on the pitch.

 

Maybe Tallin, and I see where you're coming from but right now we don't want or need to be developing youngsters from Premiership clubs. Need the finished product to slot straight in.

A comment on the Cardiff forum's preview of Saturday's game refers to us possibly signing Wheatley and says 'he was a right handful against us for Northampton last month.'

 

Good pedigree mate but so had others who played for Bradford City after time at Old Trafford, as yet its paper talk but its hard to knock what Sharpe and Alexander have brought to the club since we brought Sharpe in on the footballing side.

 

I am having to learn to trust. We are so used to good players being sold and not much coming in the door. We have moved on from that level, fingers crossed. I want to see a very good striker stand there smiling in his City shirt. If we lose this opportunity to invest properly, then what has changed?

 

Wheatley was absolutely rapid when up front for Walsall vs us last season. Caught our defenders unaware a few times. Pace higher up the leagues is such a commodity. Think he might be an answer. Hopefully a positive one.

As you'll remember we did it many years ago when Jack Tordoff was the owner he was adamant that the squad we had was good enough to take us up without adding to it, well that didn't go well losing a play off to Middlesbrough, I agree Cooks boots need filling but unfortunately I very much doubt we will spend money doing it in the January window as we know its a sellers market.

 

I'm sure Humphrys won't mind sitting on the bench for a few matches to give the lad a chance.
