With the attendances we are getting the wage budget might be able to accommodate that calibre of player?

We are smart in going down the loan route in January and am glad Graham as all but confirmed it. We can’t compete with with our budget for the level of quality player we would need on permanent transfers, but we can offer loanees a fantastic opportunity to develop and potentially pick up players better than this level.

If we make any permanent signings they should be younger lads for the future who have already shown real quality somewhere as an investment.

If I was GA I’d be looking to sign 3 midfielders minimum. It might seem excessive but losing any of Power, Metcalfe or Sarcevic would be detrimental to our success and we don’t have adequate backups for any of them.

Signing young permanents like Jenson Metcalfe would be good, although thats more likely in the summer.

3 quality loan signings would be ideal in January in the meantime.

Move on Leigh, Lapslie, pattison as they clearly aren't deemed good enough (even for cameo appearances). The bench was awful yesterday. No real game changers on it.

Completely agree re. Loans. I think we're a highly attractive loanee proposition anyway, but we can now offer the test of a promotion push and the pressure of what that brings. If you're one of the northern powerhouses of football and you have young prospects on the fringe of your team, it's a great test of their mentality and character, testing them in a promotion chasing team who play in front of 25k fans every other week. There's a case to say it's a better test than going to a mid table championship outfit.

I wonder if Jamie Donley is an option? He was on loan at Orient last season and excelled but has only featured 4 times for Stoke this season. I imagine Spurs will recall him and he would be exactly the type of quality loan that we need.

I'd certainly be looking for 2, to compete with Power and Metcalfe. And another quality 10, plus a quality forward.

Leigh, Pattison (who's clearly out of favour but who i rate), Lapslie and Cook need to be moved on. A loan for Kav might make sense too. Then 2 mids, a 10 and a striker in. That's the business I hope we do. If we get that right and we land lucky with top drawer loans, the autos could be on.

Big test of Rupps ambitions now....

Pattison is good enough as a squad player but not to be relied on due to a propensity for injury.. this outways his usefulness and we need an upgrade.
I've found Lapslie to be just a bit meh and the least said about Leigh's attitude the better.

I don't know, he's young and if he could bulk himself up a bit and learn from his teammates i think there is still hope for him.

Villa have a couple of young players on loan in L2, both among the top assisters.

Tommi O'Reilly at Crewe, and Finley Munroe at Swindon. Munroe in particular might be interesting, left sided defender/midfielder/I guess wingback who has scored 2 and created 8 in 25 apps.

Can't keep aying Touray forever, and Ty is better further forward. Of course, it's up to Villa what they want to do with him, but looks a useful prospect.

Loan market makes perfect sense for us.

Our whole transfer strategy is focused on value for money. Realistically, we're not going to be able to buy a 1st choice forward in January. It's the worst time to buy.

What’s the situation with Richards? Injured again? I really do fear Touray having a spell out.

Carlisle forum says they had scouts at VP last night, watching Cook. Then another poster said it was Halliday.
