Baldwin is an average L1 defender, with a very good long range switch (by L1 CB standards). And 'average' isn't a dig - it means he's fine at this level. It IS his level, he's holding his own. But without those lang range switches, he wouldn't really stand out in any way.

 

Didn’t realise that Toon paid £3M for Ashby. Must be the most expensive loan we’ve ever had.

 

I have seen loads of him on YouTube over the last few days. Some of the matches of Northampton and junior football. He is a big lad strong for his age quick and hard to knock of the ball. He caused Cardiff loads of problems. Don’t know if he will score the goals we need to but will definitely contribute

He’s the sort of player ripe for investment . Peterborough the player recruitment model everyone strives for, pick up these talented ex prem academy players and sell them on at big profit. It’s just a case how much Newcastle would be willing to take a huge loss?

Sounds like Bristol City are opening talks with Barnsley for a deal for Reyes Cleary. Bristol are losing a wide player to Ipswich and it sounds like from the fanbase that Cleary is their ideal replacement.

Barnsley owner wanted £5m for him at the start of the window, cant see that number being hit but they have already turned down two seven-figure bids from Blackburn for Cleary this month. Barnsley signed him on a free this past summer. Keilor-Dunn also has suitors, Barnsley could well have a treasure chest to spend next season.

 

See that Barry Bannon is in advanced talks to join Millwall on an 18 month deal.
Wonder if that paves the way for Macualay Langstaff to come to us!!

Bolton chasing Sam Nombe from Rotherham. £800k bid apparently. That would be a great signing for one of our rivals if they get this over the line.

 

If Nombe goes they'll definitely get relegated.

 

Same guy who initially reported the Nombe move is now reporting that Barnsley have accepted a £4m bid from Bristol City for Cleary. At least he wont be scoring in his own half against us again this season!

Always liked Nombe in the bits I've seen, seems a bit injury prone recently though. Rotherham look doomed.

All these dealings within the league are highlighting that teams have to spend large (for L1) amounts to get someone in. When was the last time we paid a transfer fee in the hundreds of thousands bracket? I feel we’re not going to do that, because we’re “spending with five years in mind” - paraphrasing Sparkes. I just don’t think they planned us on being in the playoff/promotion spots this transfer window, so therefore they are sticking to their long term plan.

 

Peterborough are great at complimenting that approach with also paying fees for non league talent.

Multi faceted approach thats got them some good revenue over the years. One area we are perhaps weaker at exploiting is non league.
Linked with Jordan Thomas (who hasn't the mobility to play in our system but fantastic technical ability), 3 years ago playing in front of 120 at North Leigh. These lads are out there, particularly meeting our more reserved approach to fees. That said national league is up there in transfer terms with league 2 nowadays.

I’m genuinely mystified as to why some of our fans think Walker is no good. Some numpty on here even reckoned he was at fault with both the Cardiff goals! One a worldy that no keeper would have got near to and the second a late intervention by an attacker that diverted it past him. Ridiculous.

 

I don't disagree, and you can't blame them for not planning for a promotion race back in the summer. However, we have a golden chance in front of us which I think we'll regret for years to come if we don't take it. All the big spenders are underperforming bar Cardiff and we've been consistently in the top 3 for as long as I can remember. The value and potential growth of the club if we made it to the Championship is exponentially greater than where we are now so an investment in a couple of top players would be worth every penny.

 

Well a quiet week on the transfer front, which is a little disappointing
Was hoping for a boost ahead of what will be a tough game with the new manager and players wanted to impress
Defeat tomorrow will leave us heading to an equally tough game against Lincoln, especially with our average away from
We could very easily be heading into the Doncaster game on the back of 3 defeats and Mcann has had the hex on us lately
